The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Division Scientist, you will be responsible for leading the development and commercialization of strategic new product platforms for EMD, developing electrical products for the rapidly growing Industrial and Commercial segments. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Serve as the Technical Leader responsible for the development and execution of all R&D components within the division's Strategic Electrical Product New Product Introduction Platforms.
- Act as the architect for the Product Design and Technology Roadmap, working closely with the 3M Corporate Research Lab and external partners to support the division's growth objectives.
- Oversee New Product Introduction projects from inception to completion, managing the team and project budget. Ensure the project plan is executed effectively in collaboration with cross-functional partners to achieve timely market launch.
- Engage with customers and industry stakeholders to gather technical market insights, enhancing the relevance of R&D and innovation efforts in creating value through current and future products.
- Act as a liaison with manufacturing facilities, providing oversight, facilitating knowledge transfer, and offering guidance on scale-up and commercialization processes.
- Collaborate with the Global Portfolio Leader and Marketing Leader to contribute to portfolio strategy, product offerings, and market commercialization.
- Assist in identifying and selecting future technical talent to strengthen the team.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science (completed and verified prior to start)
- Ten (10) years of experience designing, developing, or manufacturing electrical products in a private, public, government, or military environment.

- Demonstrated experience with driving growth through new product development and commercialization
- Ability to build new capabilities and technology readiness to drive value and differentiation of the new product portfolio
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- An analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Division scientist reporting to the EMD R&D Vice President
Work location:
On-site OR Remote (Austin, TX)
Travel: May include up to 50% domestic/international (This role necessitates spending roughly 50% of your time in Austin each month. Additionally, you will be required to travel to various locations, including other 3M laboratory sites, raw material vendors, third-party suppliers, manufacturing facilities, and customer locations.)
