The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The person hired for this position will serve as the overall Site Director for all manufacturing and supply chain operations at the Cottage Grove, MN facility.

The Site Director is expected to drive systemic change in all plant performance metrics through appropriate application of continuous improvement methodologies and root cause and Action Plan attainment. The ideal candidate must drive customer focus through excellent first-time quality, prompt compliant resolution and corrective action and ensure appropriate value stream performance through responsiveness, delivery performance, capacity management, supplier management, and appropriate inventory management including working and non-working inventory.

  • EHS stewardship and compliance to ensure operational Environmental, Health, and Safety compliance and accountability. EHS active visible leadership, ownership, and involvement within all operations.
  • Driving strategic planning and budgeting to drive sustainable improvements in factory cost through application of continuous improvement, entitlement thinking, yield improvement, and plant productivity.
  • Managing supply chain execution and inventory management to ensure appropriate customer value stream performance through responsiveness, delivery performance, LTA, capacity management, supplier management, and appropriate inventory management including working and non-working inventory.
  • Implementing/ensuring industry leading quality products through design for manufacturability, error proofing, and a culture of zero defects, creating value for our customers.
  • Accelerating value creation for customers through greater global alignment, improved information flow, systematic thinking to increase our overall value stream efficiency through lead time reduction and strengthening our focus on continuous improvement.
  • Developing manufacturing strategies for a high-performance workforce, capital equipment planning, technology advancement, and employee and leadership development.
  • Leading facility Strategic and Operational planning activities.
  • Develop strong leaders through accountability and a commitment to the leadership behaviors and the EPR process via principle-based leadership.
  • Actively participate in and champion projects to ensure the site achieves 3M’s Environmental Stewardship goals.
  • Ensures products are manufactured on schedule, and within quality standards and cost objectives. Responsible for the implementation of appropriate manufacturing principles, standards and measures for assigned area(s). Plans, organizes, and directs all manufacturing activities and policies, including the management of several Manufacturing disciplines.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Ten (10) years of experience in a private, public, government, or military environment in one or more of the following areas: quality, application engineering, product engineering, new product introduction, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing technology, process engineering, project engineering, manufacturing operations, supply chain management, EHS, and/or research laboratory
  • Five (5) years combined Product Manager, Plant Manager, Operations Manager and/or Large Value Stream Manager experience
  • Ten (10) years combined experience in management/supervisory within a manufacturing environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience with Union Environments
  • Demonstrated strong leadership ability and history of leading high-performance teams
  • Demonstrated understanding of principle-based leadership and behaviors
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline
  • Experience in leading strategic and organizational development, operational excellence, lean implementation, financial accounting
  • Effective communication skills

Travel: May include up to 15% Domestic/International
