The Global Cost Control workstream focuses on creating end-to-end visibility of 3M’s global International Transportation spending while driving standardization and alignment across Freight Settlement, Global Logistics Transportation, and Global Logistics Finance.
The workstream also leads the governance, tracking, and execution of global cost-reduction and transportation optimization initiatives.
As part of this workstream, you will collaborate with the broader Logistics organization, supporting both inbound and outbound shipments across multiple regions and transportation modes (air, ocean, and drayage), as well as Consolidation Centers. This role enables cross-functional engagement to improve cost control, transparency, and operational efficiency at a global level.

As the Global Cost Control Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Develop, implement, and maintain USAC, LATAM, EMEA, GCA/CHK cost scorecards that monitor the region's cost performance, highlight trends, and support data-driven decision making.
- Analyze USAC, LATAM, EMEA, GCA/CHK transportation spend and collaborate with 3PLs, sourcing, internal operational practices, and Freight Settlement teams to drive cost-reduction opportunities.
- Support preliminary scoping and mapping for cost-reduction projects across the USAC, EMEA, LATAM, GCA/CHK, including initial reviews, tracking, scope validation, and savings calculations for Global initiatives.
- Lead detailed root cause analysis for international transportation cost drivers and accessorial charges across multiple regions (USAC, LATAM, EMEA, GCA/CHK), ensuring standardized reason codes are captured in the tracker; scope may expand to additional accessorial fees.
- Support month-end financial reviews, operational results updates, Global IPS reporting, and project deliverables for the Global Cost Control Tower.
- Contribute to the oversight of cost controls and continuous improvement, ensuring standardized processes are implemented and sustained across all regions.
- Validate data quality in Freight Settlement reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with global standards.
- Assist in reviewing external auditor findings and support corrective actions to strengthen financial and operational controls.
- Communicating insights and quality results effectively to stakeholders, driving corrective actions and process improvements where needed.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Transportation within a multinational, broker, and/or transportation service provider environment.
- Proven knowledge of transportation cost optimization, freight settlement, and invoice audit processes.
- System skills set, including but not limited to Microsoft and SAP.
- Proven knowledge of Power BI, SharePoint, Excel, or process automation tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including structured root cause analysis.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) and Project Management.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across global, cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to influence, lead improvement initiatives, and present insights and results to cross-functional teams and leadership.
- Detail-oriented, data-driven, adaptable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
