The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As the Business Development & Portfolio Leader for 3M’s Infrastructure Coating Business, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Identify, develop, and maintain sales opportunities for assigned countries

  • Ensure global, and region-specific, Infrastructure Coatings profit center sales and margin objectives are met or exceeded

  • Obtain customer and internal input to develop portfolio strategic plan, aligned with divisional strategic plan. Execution of this plan will be an ongoing partnership with local and global business leaders, in order to accomplish common goals

  • Work directly with division executives and senior 3M International subsidiary management allocate appropriate resources

  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction to business Area and subsidiary personnel

  • Undertake portfolio management and pricing activities to enable gross-margin and plant utilization objectives

Key Activities will include :

  • Strategic business growth: Develop and implement commercial and sales strategies to expand the company's presence in the pipeline coating market. This includes identifying and pursuing new business opportunities with existing and potential customers.

  • Sales and pipeline management: Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline by generating new leads and tracking progress. You are accountable for achieving annual sales targets and managing the profit and loss (P&L) for the business line.

  • Client and account management: Nurture and expand relationships with key clients, which may include major oil and gas, industrial, or energy companies. Conduct contract negotiations and ensure customer requirements are met.

  • Market analysis and intelligence: Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to inform business strategy and identify opportunities for innovation.

  • Product and service development: Collaborate with research and development (R&D) and marketing teams to launch new products and services that align with market demands.

  • Performance reporting: Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on sales performance, market trends, budget achievements, and forecast accuracy.

  • Pricing: Understand the Epoxy Raw Material costing, manufacturing cost structure, and external competitive environment, to provide list price and project specific contract price guidance to the sales and commercial center organisations globally.

  • Technical collaboration: Work with engineers and technical support staff to provide customers with tailored solutions and ensure a deep understanding of product advantages and application techniques.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Ten (10) years of experience in a business or sales function, with a proven track record of driving successful growth results in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Chemical Engineering

  • Experience in the Performance Coatings or Oil & Gas industry

  • Experience at the global or regional level, with a deep understanding of multiple local markets and cultural dynamics

  • Strong analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of sales management, including planning and execution, key account development, negotiation of trading terms, new market development, and team coaching

  • Strong operational and problem-solving skills

  • Proven leadership abilities, with strong negotiation and influencing skills

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives

Work location:

  • This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at a locally applicable 3M office.
  • Based in St Paul, MN or Austin, TX

Travel: May include up to 40% travel

Relocation: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
