The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Market to Order (MTO) Lean Value Stream Leader is responsible for defining, standardizing, and optimizing the end‑to‑end MTO Value Stream to ensure consistent global performance, strong governance, and alignment with business objectives. This role drives process excellence, continuous improvement, and transformation across regions and functions, directly impacting service levels, customer experience, and overall business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, monitor, and improve the global MTO Value Stream to meet performance and service level expectations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison across corporate, regional, and local teams to align priorities, resolve issues, and coordinate improvement activities.
  • Define and implement the Global E2E Value Stream Roadmap to deliver business benefits and enhance ease of use for end users.
  • Align and manage Value Stream KPIs in partnership with Business Groups and all functions in the Value Stream, ensuring measurable progress toward business objectives.
  • Integrate and automate MTO processes within ERP systems, leveraging Lean, digital tools, and automation technologies.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, cycle time, cost, and inventory while improving customer and employee experience.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Drive Value Stream automation opportunities.
  • Lead the Value Stream Community of Practice and foster a culture of transformation, curiosity, and innovation.
  • Facilitate global communication and sharing of best practices across the MTO community.
  • Collaborate with key functions (e.g., Business Groups, MDM, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, GBS Service Delivery) to ensure global alignment and transformation progress.
  • Act as a change agent, sponsoring improvement initiatives across business and functional units.
  • Support governance by maintaining Value Stream change control and providing expertise for shared service migrations, integrations, and M&A activities.
  • Contribute to Value Stream Council meetings and drive adoption of global standards among stakeholders.

Summary: This role is critical in delivering a standardized, efficient, and high‑performing MTO Value Stream that supports revenue, service quality, and operational excellence across 3M.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Ten (10) years of experience in MTO related or value‑stream‑related functions such as market and customer analysis, segmentation and targeting, lead generation, customer incentive plans, point-of-sale, pricing, finance, or shared services in a private, public, government or military environment.
  • Experience with ERP implementation, process transformation, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, digital automation).

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Professional certifications such as PMP
  • Experience driving large‑scale transformation or technology‑enabled operating model redesign.

Work location:

  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 20% International

Relocation: May be authorized
