As a Global Logistics Operations Lead, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by leading and optimizing global logistics operations across the regions.
This role is responsible for improving carrier performance, reducing risk, increasing service levels, and ensuring full compliance with Global Logistics regulations. The successful candidate will identify and onboard new transportation partners, enhance logistics capabilities through data driven insights, and collaborate closely with cross functional teams to support 3M’s global strategic objectives and Transportation Transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- · Identify, evaluate, and onboard transportation partners (Air, Ocean & Consolidation Centers) aligned with 3M’s Global Logistics Strategy.
- · Develop strong partnerships with carriers and service providers to ensure performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
- · Monitor and optimize transportation processes to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and meet global metrics/KPI targets.
- · Ensure adherence to international regulations and customers’ requirements.
- · Driving and lead transportation improvement initiatives leveraging data analytics, industry best practices, continuous improvement frameworks.
- · Work closely with Sourcing, Supply Chain, Procurement, and business units to align transportation strategies with organizational goals.
- · Analyze transportation data to identify trends, performance gaps, and cost saving opportunities.
- · Support strategic planning and long-term transportation design for the region.
- · Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance records tied to transportation performance.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start).
- Ten (10) years of combined experience in Logistics, Distribution, Transportation, or Supply Chain (Ocean & Air Modes) in a private, public, government or military environment
- Five (5) years of experience in freight management, carrier performance, and cost optimization.
- Five (5) years of experience in working with multiple projects in supply chain as Program Manager (new providers)
- Three (3) years of experience using analytics and KPIs to improve service levels and reduce risk.
- Three (3) years of experience of onboarding and managing carriers and service providers.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master’s degree or MBA.
- Professional certifications such as APICS CSCP, CLTD, or Lean Six Sigma.
- Experience leading cross-functional and multi-regional projects.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills across Supply Chain, Procurement, and business units.
- Ability to manage complex logistics challenges and deploy best-in-class solutions.
- Experience designing and implementing long-term transportation strategies aligned with business goals.
- Knowledge of logistics regulations, market dynamics, and operational constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to drive impactful process improvements and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
Work location:
- 3M Center, Maplewood, MN (at least 4 days a week in office)
Travel: May include up to 30% domestic/international
