The Impact You Will Make in this Role

As a Tooling Process Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world.

The person hired for the position of Tooling Process Engineer will work with the Staples Plant to transition new tooling technology to the production location. This will include installation and commissioning of equipment, production implementation of R&D derived processes and ownership of the technology platform in the production facility. This person will be responsible for all production related aspects of machine tooling including process optimization, quality improvement, and metrology. This exciting opportunity will include the precision machining of metal molds used in new product applications for growing market areas.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Drive process optimization and continuous improvement of microreplication tool manufacturing and products to deliver world class quality products.

• Measure, statistically analyze, and summarize large data sets related to inspection of optical films and tooling.

• Develop, document, and implement new test methods with data-driven decision-making.

• Engage with production staff to transfer and implement key learnings related to microreplication tool manufacturing, test methods, and other process or quality improvements.

• Create and document intellectual property.

• Interact with NTI/NPI teams to support new growth programs from concept to launch.

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verify prior to start) AND One (1) year of metrology experience with white light interferometer, optical microscopy, or related techniques AND three (3) years of CAD/CAM experience (Siemens NX, Autodesk, SolidWorks, Mastercam or equivalent)

OR

• High school diploma/GED or higher and a minimum of Ten (10) years as a machinist with precision machining experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Deep emphasis on applied statistical applications and continuous improvement methodologies.

• Ability to communicate effectively in cross-functional teams.

• Demonstrated ability to drive quality improvement.

• Experience with data analysis software packages.

• Demonstrated strong troubleshooting and creative critical thinking skills.

• Siemens NX CAD/CAM software experience.

Work Location

• Work Location: Staples, MN with regular work in St. Paul and MN Menomonie, WI

Travel: May include up to 75% domestic – travel. Extensive travel for first 6 months, then role is mostly in Staples, MN

Relocation: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
