Group Lead Counsel, Labor & Employment law COE

ABB’s Legal & Integrity team is a pro-active and strategic business partner, with a strong focus on quality, customers and the company’s best interest. This role will provide critical support with the creation and implementation of strategies and processes to promote within the ABB Group an overarching culture of integrity and compliance with all Labor & Employment laws and regulations in Europe/ UK/ AMEA/Americas (in line with the ABB way decentralized business model). The location of the role is flexible globally.

Your responsibilities

• Assist with significant global ABB Group ESG & DEI projects to help drive cultural evolution and compliance.
• Provide Labor & Employment law advice and counsel on the highest severity integrity and workplace conduct investigations in Europe/UK/AMEA/Americas recognizing when to elevate certain matters to the attention of Global Chief Counsel Labor & Employment law.
• Provide support with the development of ABB’s Labor & Employment law Centre of Expertise (L&E law COE) in conjunction with the Group Global Chief Counsel, Labor & Employment law, the Business Area General Counsels, the Business Area Heads of Labor & Employment law, L&E COE lawyers and in close collaboration with the wider legal & integrity function, HR, labor relations, business partners, and executive leadership.
• Provide advice and counsel on risk mitigation as to Group Labor & Employment law related matters, including performance & reward issues, international assignment documentation, employee relations escalations, Group litigation, special projects in Europe/UK/AMEA/Americas from the basic to the complex.
• Educate and train key internal stakeholders on all Labor & Employment law related issues.

Your background

• LLM or equivalent qualification from a reputable university.
• A qualified Labor & Employment law specialist lawyer currently admitted to practice law, and familiarity with Labor & Employment law issues in both common law and civil legal systems.
• Typically, minimum 10+ years’ post qualification Labor & Employment Law experience (PQE) in a major law firm, or in-house or a combination of both.
• Skilled international Labor & Employment lawyer with experience working across many jurisdictions simultaneously and providing advice and counsel at a leadership team level.
• Significant experience with international clients and cross-border projects, including exposure to strategic business decisions.
• Advanced Labor & Employment law advice and disputes experience. Exposure to litigation, investigations and regulatory audits, or generally a well-diversified practice experience.
• Fluent English (written and oral) is required. Additional language skills with the ability to draft and negotiate in more than one language would be preferred. Willing to work flexible hours when necessary to connect with colleagues in the U.S., Latin America, EMEA and across Asia.
• Well developed sensitivity to the diversity of cultures, when giving Labor & Employment law counseling. Sound judgment in implementing and administering legal strategies and solutions;
• A results-oriented professional with strong common sense and superior business acumen
• Demonstrable attention to detail, ability to compile and analyze complex business information and work with other counsel to assess risk and provide resolutions or recommendations.
• Excellent written, interpersonal and analytical skills are required.
