Industrial Engineer

In the position of Industrial Engineer, you will act with safety, efficiency, quality and productivity to ensure that products and systems meet stated requirements. As an Industrial Engineer you will be responsible for monitoring, challenging and increasing ABB supplier’s production performance mostly in product testing area by developing ABB products testing solutions and adopting those to industry producibility standards. Key interaction areas are maintaining and controlling ABB production test equipment at our suppliers (working in TestStand), understanding ABB product communication, supporting creation and acceptance of various testers (programming, ICT, Hi-Pot, functional test), monitoring suppliers performance and working together with them to increase it, collaboration with other ABB functions to launch and ramp up production at EMS plants (example participating in quality audits, driving NPI (new product introduction) process, etc., challenging suppliers in cost optimization, working with EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) companies to ensure continuous production flow and non disrupted process and operations. Industrial Engineers are a key element in PCP (Process Control Platform) hardware value chain to drive quality and performance of technical solution and production, hence a key element to positive business development and customer satisfaction.

Your responsibilities

  • Driving test equipment development, ordering and validation process
  • Product test specification reviews with R&D (Research and development)
  • Coaching suppliers on ABB production requirements
  • Supporting R&D with production test strategy, plan and procedures
  • Following design guidelines and standards (design for excellence criteria)
  • Controlling investment for new/updated products
  • Working in close collaboration with Supplier Quality, R&D, Planning and Fulfillment team, Procurement and Logistics teams
  • ABB asset database management
  • Support continuous improvement projects at Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS)
  • Following Lean Six Sigma as the leading principle

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/ electronic engineering required and minimum 8 years of experience in hardware development or Industrial Engineering, Test Engineering, Test Design at EMS
  • Master’s degree a plus
  • Solid knowledge in hardware design and production processes
  • Basic knowledge of LabView and/or TestStand
  • Professional expertise in Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) or introduction of new products in mass production or similar
  • Good communication skills and a team player
  • Good oral and written English
  • Strong quality mindset, strive for perfection
  • Open and global mindset
  • Knowledge of IPC electronics standards is beneficial
  • Database and information management skills (example Jira, Confluence, Sharepoint) is beneficial
  • Travel up to 15 percent, including international travel
  • Must be able to work in the Cleveland office at least 4 days/week
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
