Your role and responsibilities
We will support you in the final phase of your bachelor or master’s degree course. Compile your practically-oriented thesis with us, and seize the opportunity to gain insights into an international group. ABB will provide you with wide-ranging, professional and expert support to bring your thesis to a successful conclusion. The financial support we can offer includes a utilization bonus for your thesis The following tasks and responsibilities will be part of your role: • Understand boundary conditions appearing during a short circuit in a Manual Motor Starter. • Build up simulation model of system using Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation tools. • Compare design of competitors and optimize design of exit air system of Manual Motor Starter by predefinition of key performance indicators to be improved. • Appoint a series of experiments program in alignment with laboratory and build up prototypes with suppliers. • Assess short circuit testing results together with lab team. • Draw conclusion for impacting key performance indicators and advise a design in consideration of manufacturing and cost impact. • Collaborate with the agile team members Center of Excellence and learn about arc extinction. • Document and present scientific results in a professional environment at ABB.
Qualifications for the role
- You are studying for a bachelor or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
- You have good knowledge and experience in one or more of the following fields: Applied Mechanics, Mechatronics, Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation, Prototyping and Testing of Mechatronic/Mechanical Systems.
- You are experienced in at least one of the following software packages: ANSYS, PTC Creo.
