Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement (4-6 months). Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities. Our Industrial Software Systems team performs research in a wide range of topics, including machine-learning applications, cyber-security, real-time and embedded systems, computer networking and intelligent distributed systems. We are offering several internship positions which are competitively paid and provide the opportunity of working on real-world problems in a flexible and dynamic research environment. Candidates who intend to use this internship for their Master thesis are highly encouraged. The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI-Hybrid This role is contributing to the Industrial Software Systems team in Baden-Dättwil, Switzerland. Main stakeholder is ABB Electrification. You will be mainly responsible for: • Exploration of current challenges in software systems via direct interaction with ABB R&D units • Review of academic literature • Design, evaluation and documentation of potential solutions • Quick prototyping of solutions through proof-of-concept implementations

Qualifications for the role

  • You currently pursue a degree (enrollment to 5th semester or higher is essential) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or similar field
  • You are interested in at least one of the following fields: Software engineering, real-time systems, embedded software, security technologies, operating systems, distributed computing, blockchain, data analytics, machine learning, computer vision, wireless communication protocols
  • You have knowledge of at least one programming language, e.g., C, C++, Python
  • You are self-motivated and willing to learn and quickly adapt to new research topics
  • You have a hands-on attitude and the ability to think conceptually and express ideas clearly and convincingly
  • You are proficient in English
  • Non-EU/non-EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of your studies, is required for the visa application
