Your role and responsibilities
Under the direction of the Drives Service Manager, the Resident Field Engineering Specialist provides technical onsite and offsite support and expertise in response to a variety of site work requests relating to installation, commissioning, maintenance and support for ABB MV Drives and Motors. As a resident you would be assigned to a single customer site located in southern Texas, USA and would report to site daily and provide afterhours phone support as required. Resident duties also include assisting the customer in assessing the health of their system, providing guidance regarding maintenance planning, system improvement, and identification of spare parts. The work model for the role is: remote #LI-Remote This role is contributing to the Motion division in the US. You will be mainly accountable for: • Perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and re-pair of ABB Medium Voltage (MV) Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) at customer site as a res-ident engineer and investigate problems and independently initiate effective measures for their solution. • Supporting maintenance planning, pre-outage, outage and post-outage planning activities in conjunction with the customer. • Coordinate activities with related groups to most efficiently achieve objectives to ensure customer satisfaction and communicate effectively and present information to top man-agement, customers, vendors, and other employees of the organization. • Providing assessments of Parts storage and maintenance and making necessary storage recommendations. Advising customer with respect to the Parts provided (or required to be provided), including identifying any missing spare Parts and submit completed, de-tailed, and comprehensive service reports in a timely manner and follows up when needed.
Qualifications for the role
- Associate degree and 7 years of relevant experience or High school diploma/GED and 9 years of relevant experience or military education/experience required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field and 5 years of relevant experience highly preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 80% of the time and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Willing to provide technical support during evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule.
- Ability to interpret circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, technical manu-als, and technical specifications.
- Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions; performs work related travel; and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moder-ate, occasionally loud. The employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and sit; use hands to manipulate and control tools, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls; reach above shoulders; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and taste or smell.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $79,800 and $148,200 annually plus overtime.
