Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement (12 months). Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities. You will be part of the Research & Development team and contribute with your creativity and technical knowledge to the development of new and innovative solutions. You will be responsible for the development of design solutions for new products and for design optimizations in the existing product portfolio. The work model for the role is: On-site #LI-On-Site This role is contributing to the division Smart Buidlings within Electrification and is part of the Critical Power Product Line organization. You will be mainly accountable for: • Support, collaboration and independent execution of mechanical design work in SolidWorks (2d/3d) within the framework of new development and product care projects • Development and further optimization of mechanical latching mechanisms • Manufacturing-ready design of components and sub-systems in exchange with the relevant departments and proactive implementation of design solutions in cooperation with the product teams • Support and collaboration in product master data maintenance • Procurement of new components / prototypes and support of test planning • Creation of documentation

Qualifications for the role

  • You currently pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
  • You have strong technical knowledge in the design of plastic components as well as stamped/bent parts and ideally already technical knowledge in the field of mechanical and electrical systems of low-voltage products like contact systems, electrical and mechanical interfaces
  • You have very good knowledge of the use of CAD software (preferably Solidworks) as well as Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS-Project and PowerBi)
  • You have proven experience of problem-solving methodologies and product change management
  • You have a high degree of self-motivation and you are a quick learner that works in a results-oriented manner with a positive attitude
  • You are at ease communicating in English and German
  • Non-EU/non-EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of your studies, is required for the visa application
