Key responsibilities
Join our motivated team as an R&D Senior Engineer – Electronics Hardware Development and contribute to shaping the next generation of high-quality, scalable, and easily configurable control and monitoring devices within ABB’s Electrification Business Area.
In this role, you will bring creative ideas to product realization initiatives and drive innovative development projects tailored to customer needs. You will be part of an agile, cross-functional, and globally connected team that values collaboration and innovation.
We are looking for a highly motivated, hands-on engineer with a proactive mindset and the drive to develop new solutions for today’s technical challenges.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Design and develop analog and digital circuits from concept to serial production
Create schematics, define PCB layout constraints, and prepare verification specifications
Perform simulations, prototype testing, and document design results
Collaborate with product management, system architects, and software teams to derive hardware requirements
Monitor technology trends and identify technical drivers for R&D projects
Take responsibility for hardware development activities, including risk assessment and supplier coordination
Contribute to intellectual property discussions and drive patent creation for ABB
Qualifications for the role
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electronics development for embedded systems, ideally in an industrial environment
Advanced degree in Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field
Strong expertise in designing electronic circuits and schematics for industrial applications
Proficiency with electronic simulation tools
Experience in EMC-compliant design
Knowledge of functional safety and related standards (e.g. IEC 61508); certification is an advantage
Willingness to travel internationally (up to 5%)
Excellent command of English (C1 level); German skills (B2 level) are an asset but not mandatory
