This Position reports to:

End User Area Sales Manager


As ABB's Business Development Manager focusing on University/School and Healthcare related clients for the Electrification Smart Building Division, you will have the opportunity to adapt and implement the sales support strategy in order to best appeal and continue to grow the organization's presence in these markets., Each day, you will drive sales growth by providing technical expertise, influencing end users, and supporting ABB’s field sales, channel partners, and customers. The role blends business strategy, customer education, and hands-on technical application of ABB’s Electrification products and systems.

As this role will focus on the Southern California market (primarily), the position will accept remote (#LI-Remote) candidates located in California or Arizona, with the ability to travel an estimated 20%.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Providing technical and application support to customers and ABB sales teams on all Electrification products.
  • Representing ABB in meetings with customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and distributors. Will develop customer relationships and strategies to identify new business opportunities and support sales goals by, for example, conducting technical presentations and training to customers, distributors, and engineers on ABB products and systems and attending trade shows, seminars, and conferences to promote ABB solutions and brand visibility.
  • Supporting Product Management and Marketing with customer feedback on features, enhancements, and quality improvements. Collaborating with R&D and product engineering on product design, application standards, and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with sales and division technical teams to maximize customer satisfaction and meet financial objectives.
  • Prepare reports, proposals, and analyses related to major project electrical designs.


Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years (or Master’s with 5+ years) in the power industry.

  • Strong creativity and problem-solving in technical applications and customer relations.

  • Ability to analyze market trends and recommend strategies for new products or marketing initiatives.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) and power system design tools (ETAP, SKM, EMTP-RV, etc.).

  • Skilled in developing and presenting PowerPoint presentations to customers and senior leaders.

  • Excellent communicator and team player; confident presenting to large audiences or virtual groups.

  • Strong time management and ability to balance multiple priorities across technical and business teams.

  • Candidates must possess work authorization to work for ABB in the US.

While base salary is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience, this position is expected to pay between $116,200 and $215,800 annually and is eligible for a short-term incentive plan/annual bonus.
