Sales Specialist
We’re seeking a Greenfield Automation Technical Advisor / Solution Architect to join ABB’s Process Automation – Energy Industries (PAEN) Sales team in the UK. In this role, you will be the key technical expert supporting the sales team on all greenfield automation opportunities. You will architect and price the most competitive and compliant solutions by leveraging the latest technologies and efficient execution strategies. You’ll engage directly with customers, demonstrating high-impact technical leadership that drives value.
Your primary goal: help win the job through sharp, well-engineered and competitive automation solutions.
The work model for the role is: remote from the UK #LI-remote.
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, your main responsibilities will be to:
Act as the Main Technical Authority for Greenfield Automation
Lead all technical engagement by providing deep automation expertise across all customer interactions and internal teams, while actively showcasing ABB’s leadership in automation through active participation in industry forums and events.Develop the Most Competitive and Compliant Solutions
Architect complete automation solutions in response to RFQs, define efficient execution strategies together with Operations, estimate engineering effort, identify and size project risks, and collaborate with Account Managers to refine cost and pricing.Produce High-Quality Technical Offers
Prepare compelling, customer-focused technical offers that clearly present the proposed solution, demonstrate its value, and position ABB to win the opportunity.Drive Continuous Improvement and Innovation
Evaluate emerging technologies and take a leading role in driving competitiveness and profitability through lessons learned, and by leading enhancements to processes and tools.

Qualifications for the role
You will be a minimum Degree qualified in Control System or Computing Engineering or a related technical field.
You will have proven extensive experience designing complex greenfield automation systems, covering all layers from field to enterprise-level integration.
You will be an expert in ICSS and SCADA systems, with strong proficiency in industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, OPC, and IEC 61850. Your expertise will extend to system and network design, cybersecurity practices, and the application of relevant IEC standards.
You will have hands-on experience with ABB Control Systems, including 800xA, Symphony Plus, Freelance, AC500, and Zenon.
You will have proven experience in one or more of the following industries: Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Water & Utilities, Chemicals, or emerging energy sectors such as Offshore Wind, Hydrogen (H₂), Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS).
You will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, confidently conveying technical expertise in customer-facing interactions. Fluency in English is essential.
You will be results-oriented, self-motivated, well-organized, and pragmatic, with strong problem-solving abilities and a systems-thinking mindset.
Familiarity with ABB Adaptive Execution, XStream Engineering, and ABB Automation Vision is considered an advantage.
