Your role and responsibilities

The High Power Division offers a comprehensive product portfolio, including customized designs for various industries. The division focuses on developing advanced drive systems and high-efficiency motors and generators, which are critical in various industrial applications.

We are seeking an R&D Team Leader to join ABB Oy, Motion High Power, Machines Division in Helsinki. You will lead a team of R&D Engineers specializing in the electrical and thermal dimensioning of a wide range of electric motors and generators. Leveraging your leadership and management skills, you will inspire, guide and drive your team to achieve high levels of performance. Additionally, you will be accountable for monitoring the electrical and thermal performance of dedicated products and creating related development road maps.

We offer a hybrid working modea, and the role requires approximately 50 % work time presence in our offices in Pitäjänmäki.


You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Leading a team of R&D Engineers specializing in electrical and thermal dimensioning of a wide range of electric motors and generators
  • Leading and coaching your team members to achieve high levels of performance
  • Developing the competences of your team to effectively support execution of product strategies
  • Team resource allocation and work-queue planning and follow-up
  • Ownership of dedicated products’ electrical and thermal performance


Qualifications for the role

  • Working experience as an expert in electric motors and generators, or experience leading a team of product experts
  • Good leadership skills and the ability to drive change in the team’s ways of working
  • Good planning and organization skills
  • Proactive and systematic way of working
  • Valid working permit in Finland
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and conversational proficiency in Finnish
  • M.Sc. or higher in field of rotating electrical machines

The High Power Division offers a comprehensive product portfolio of large AC motors and generators and drives. From general purpose to highly customized designs, synchronous motors and high voltage induction motors provide high efficiency, reliability and availability across all major industries and applications, including some in the toughest and most demanding environments. The division also has a long track record of designing and building generators for wide range of industries, including power generation, marine, oil and gas, mining, and data centers.
