Principal Architect - Supply Chain Ecosystems & AI Orchestration
ABB
At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we’ll give you what you need to make it happen. It won’t always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you’ll never run alone. Run what runs the world.
This Position reports to:
IS ManagerActs as the Strategic Orchestrator for ABB’s physical and digital supply chain. This role bridges the gap between our System of Record (SAP S/4HANA & Legacy ERPs) and the Physical World (MES, WMS, TMS). You will not just govern the architecture; you will lead the transition from a monolithic ERP landscape to an Agentic AI future, where supply chain optimization (ATP, Scheduling, Routing) is decoupled from the core and orchestrated by intelligent agents across our $6B legacy and $200M agile environments
Principal Architect for Intelligent Supply Chain Ecosystems: Standard functional architects focus on configuring SAP modules. This role is required to solve the 'Promised Date' problem that exists between the modules. We need a visionary who can architect the end-to-end flow—from Order Intake (MTO/MTS) to Manufacturing (MES) to Logistics (TMS)—across both our $200M S/4HANA unit and our $6B legacy landscape.
We are hiring this role to prevent the 'Visibility Black Hole' that occurs when business logic is trapped in legacy silos. By having one Principal Architect capable of decoupling this logic and elevating it to an AI Orchestration Layer, we ensure we don't just 'run' the supply chain but also autonomously optimize it. This role eliminates the need for duplicate headcount by architecting a unified Data & Agent backbone that serves both the agile unit and the legacy core.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid
#LI-Hybrid
This role is contributing to the ABB Electrification Business Area Installation Products Division Globally.
Your Roles and Responsibilities:
In this role, you will act as the Architect of the Intelligent Supply Chain across two distinct industrial landscapes: our emerging $200M S/4HANA Public Cloud unit and our established $6B Legacy ECC core. You will move be-yond the traditional "ERP Monolith" mindset to build a Decoupled Architecture in which SAP serves as the reliable System of Record. At the same time, optimization and orchestration are elevated to a flexible Agentic AI Layer.
Each day, you will bridge the gap between the Digital Plan (ERP) and the Physical Reality (MES, WMS, TMS). You will guide Domain Leads to design friction-free value streams (MTO, MTS) that solve the critical "Promised Date" problem, ensuring that our $6B legacy core remains agile while our $200M growth unit scales without limits.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Architecting the "System of Record" Strategy: Defining the target architecture where SAP S/4HANA and ECC serve as the immutable data foundation, while integrating seamlessly with best-of-breed satellites (Salesforce, Siemens MES, Blue Yonder WMS). You ensure that the "Truth" remains in the ERP, even as execution happens at the edge.
- Solving the "Physical" Integration Gap: Leading the architectural alignment between Planning (ERP) and Execution (MES/WMS). You will design the data flows that ensure a Production Planner’s decision in SAP is instantly actionable on the Factory Floor, and that Shop Floor constraints are visible back to the Planner (ATP/Scheduling).
- Enabling the Agentic AI Future: Creating the technical blueprints for a Data-First Architecture. You will define how we extract logic from legacy silos and expose it via APIs/Events to future AI Agents, allowing for autonomous cross-domain orchestration.
- Acting as the "Strangler Pattern" Authority: Exercising the authority to reject "New Legacy" customizations. You will champion the "Keep the Core Clean" philosophy, guiding teams to build extensions on BTP or Cloud Platforms rather than hardcoding logic into the ERP, ensuring we remain upgrade-ready and AI-compatible.
Our team dynamics:
You will join a battle-tested, expert-driven team of veterans who are pivoting to the future. We average 20+ years of IT experience, but we are not "Legacy Huggers"—we are Modernizers. We operate with extreme ownership, valuing working prototypes over PowerPoint slides. This is a high-performance environment for an Architect who is tired of "maintaining the status quo" and wants to prove that a multi-billion-dollar industrial giant can be as agile as a startup.
Qualifications for the role:
- The "Business Cartographer": You are highly skilled in end-to-end process modeling and Process Mining (specifically SAP Signavio or Celonis). You use these tools to visualize the "Order-to-Deliver" reality versus the plan, and you have a deep understanding of Manufacturing Business Models (Make-to-Order, Make-to-Stock) to interpret that data.
- The "Physical" Architect: You have 10+ years of experience in Enterprise Architecture with a specific focus on the Physical Supply Chain. You have touched MES (Manufacturing) and WMS/TMS (Logistics) systems and know how they integrate with SAP. (Pure "Digital/Web" architects need not apply).
- The "Legacy Strangler": Proven ability to migrate and modernize. You have experience identifying logic trapped in legacy ERPs (Infor, LX, KBM, ECC) and re-architecting it into a modern, decoupled landscape.
- The "Agentic" Visionary: Understanding of AI and Automation Architectures. You can articulate how AI Agents can be orchestrated across legacy and modern systems to drive process efficiency, and you view the Cloud not just as infrastructure, but as an Intelligence Layer.
- The "Glue" Tech: Enhanced knowledge of SAP BTP Integration Suite, Kafka/Event Mesh, and API Management. You know how to move data in real-time to fuel the process mining and AI layers.
- Executive Presence: Ability to demonstrate executive-level communication skills, translating complex "Bit and Byte" problems into "P&L Impact" for the CFO and CEO.
- Global Mindset: You are at ease communicating in English (fluency required for global orchestration) and are comfortable working in a hybrid model.
