Your Role and Responsibilities

We are now looking for a new Lead Engineer for Nuclear Projects to join our team in ABB Energy Industries in Vaasa, Finland. In this role, you will have the opportunity to act as a coordinator and the lead for engineering processes and practices on assignments. Each day, you will ensure that activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

You will also showcase your expertise by guiding and harmonizing engineering practices for nuclear power projects, understanding their specific requirements and qualification processes, while completing the corresponding engineering assignments. The role requires strong knowledge of nuclear project practices and the ability to work independently.

You will mainly be responsible for:

  • Guiding project engineers in translating conceptual designs into technical documentation, including design, modelling, and calculations.

  • Leading, supervising, and coordinating the team throughout the entire project.

  • Being ready to work fully independently when required, managing the overall scope and ensuring successful delivery without direct supervision.

  • Applying design thinking and Design for Excellence principles in projects, leveraging your expertise and available tools.

  • Collaborating on installation, commissioning, and site activities to clarify potential issues or provide solutions to rectify engineering errors.

  • Maintaining a professional and responsible approach to all activities, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and risk mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications for the Role

  • BSc or MSc degree in a relevant field, such as Electrical Engineering

  • Solid work experience (>5 years) in electrical engineering within an industrial environment

  • Prior experience in electrical design engineering for systems related to power generation and distribution

  • Knowledge of nuclear power processes, including documentation and qualification practices

  • Strong sense of responsibility and ability to take ownership broadly

  • Hands-on, self-managed, and proactive approach to deliver results in changing situations

  • Passion for continuous improvement and development, fostering trust and collaboration

  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in Finnish and English, both written and verbal

  • Familiarity with ABB products is seen as a benefit
