Your role and responsibilities
In this position, you will play a key role in further developing ABB’s internal and external communications and delivering our strategic messages for the German market in a targeted and audience-appropriate manner. You will actively support press and media relations, strengthen the visibility of our business areas, and contribute to internal communications to inform, inspire, and connect employees. At the same time, you will expand your professional knowledge and practical skills through our Global Trainee Program.
The Global Trainee Program lasts 24 months and includes two six-month assignments and one twelve-month assignment. One of the three assignments takes place abroad. During the program, you will complete various rotations focusing on press work, internal communication, storytelling, media relations, and communication strategy.
Additionally, you will participate in a global induction event in June, where you can network with other participants in the Discovery Program. A dedicated program manager will support you throughout your journey in the program. The trainee position will start on June 1, 2026.

This role is organizationally assigned to the Business Area Electrification and the Division Smart Building. The primary location for this position is Heidelberg. Key stakeholders include the Marketing team, Product Marketing, and Segment Management. Collaboration with external partners is a core part of this role.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Support in creating and placing press releases, feature articles, and media statements for the trade press, as well as assisting in building and maintaining relationships with journalists and relevant media partners
Develop and implement audience-appropriate content for internal communications, e.g., intranet articles, interviews, newsletters, or short video formats, including research, topic development, and editorial planning for internal and external communication channels
Contribute to communication campaigns for products, innovations, and strategic initiatives – both internal and external, as well as independently executing communication projects within each assignment phase
Explore and use new technologies and tools to advance communication activities, e.g., AI-supported content creation, interactive formats, or gamification elements
Support initiatives to enhance employee engagement, such as feedback formats, internal events, or digital dialogue platforms
Analyze and evaluate communication activities to continuously optimize reach, interaction, and impact
Qualifications for the role
Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Engineering, or a comparable field
First practical experience in press work, corporate communications, journalism, or PR – ideally through internships or student employment
Completion of a media traineeship is a plus but not mandatory
Excellent written communication skills and a strong sense for audience-appropriate messaging and storytelling
Strong affinity for technical topics and the ability to make complex content understandable
Strong communication and organizational skills and confident interaction with internal and external stakeholders
Fluent German and English
Willingness to travel internationally for the planned assignment abroad
Maximum of two years of professional experience at the start of the program
High motivation to acquire new skills and knowledge
