Production Scheduler
ABB
At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we’ll give you what you need to make it happen. It won’t always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you’ll never run alone. Run what runs the world.
This Position reports to:
Planning and Fulfillment Manager
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to generate detailed weekly and monthly production schedules that maximise the use of resources and ensure production targets are met across a diverse and fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Each day, you will provide accurate information on production capacity constraints, material availability, and any issues impacting delivery. You will also showcase your expertise by releasing manufacturing work orders and supporting multiple production lines, including sub‑assembly and module lines.
Our facility operates a double‑shift pattern from 6am to 11pm, and we are looking for two Production Schedulers to provide strong coverage across these operational hours. Each scheduler will work a standard 8‑hour shift within this window, ensuring continuity without requiring early‑morning or late‑evening hours. Together, you will maintain a robust handover between shifts, keeping production flow, materials, and priorities aligned throughout the day.
We are open to diverse candidates who can either bring a depth of knowledge and confidence to the role, and we are also open to developing a junior candidate who is eager to grow within the planning function.
The work model for this role is: onsite #LI-Onsite
This role contributes to the Planning & Fulfilment function within the Napier manufacturing site. Main stakeholders include Production Planners, Line Leaders, Supply Chain, Quality, and the wider Operations team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-performing, award-winning team and help deliver world-class solutions. We specialize in the research, development, and manufacturing of advanced solutions that shape the future of energy. In 2025, our team was proud to be named Exporter of the Year at the ExportNZ ASB Hawke’s Bay Export Awards and to receive the Ziwi Excellence in Innovation Award, recognizing our commitment to innovation and global impact.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Creating and maintaining a detailed production schedule aligned to the production plan across multiple main lines and associated sub‑assemblies.
- Executing daily, plant‑level Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) to ensure material readiness and support on‑time delivery.
- Establishing the sequence and lead times for each operation to meet shipment dates in line with the master schedule.
- Monitoring schedule adherence, identifying root causes for delays, and driving follow‑up improvement actions.
- Working closely on the production floor to ensure materials, components, and work orders are aligned and ready in the correct order.
- Escalating NCR‑related issues (damaged materials, quality concerns, missing parts) to the appropriate teams and ensuring timely resolution.
- Supporting capacity planning through Excel analysis, Gantt charts, and visual tracking tools to ensure lines meet target test dates.
Qualifications for the role
- You ideally hold a degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or a related field, though this is not essential. A strong ability to think critically and take ownership for your workload is a must.
- You are highly skilled in working with production planning methodologies, MRP processes, and the dynamics of a manufacturing environment.
- You have established skills in production scheduling, materials coordination, or supply chain operations, with experience in a manufacturing or assembly‑based setting.
- Ideally you are adept in SAP, particularly the Production Planning (PP) or Materials Management (MM) modules, and are confident using Excel for analysis and capacity planning.
- You are captivated by problem‑solving, analytical thinking, and clear, concise communication, especially when working with diverse teams on the production floor. You enjoy working independently while collaborating effectively with others when issues arise.
- You are at ease communicating in English and comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- You hold the necessary work rights for New Zealand.
