Your role and responsibilities
We are looking for an R&D Electronic Hardware Design Engineer for Energy Distribution products line within Smart Building Division, who will join the Global R&D Electronic Team.

Working in an agile and international environment, the selected candidate will contribute, with their own ideas to propose innovative solutions, to the design of Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBAs) for new electronic products (e.g. energy and power meters, protection and control devices, gateways). In this position, they will follow the entire development process, from detailed requirement specifications definition to final product validation and certification. The selected candidate will also support the life cycle management of the existing product portfolio, requiring the ability to manage and prioritize several concurrent activities.

This role is contributing to the Energy management R&D Team for Energy Distribution business line based in Vittuone (Milan).

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Working as an independent and reliable contributor in R&D projects with limited supervision.

  • Performing various tasks in the assigned area (e.g., mechanics, electronics, thermal, software), from building concepts, gathering requirements to designing, implementing, integrating, testing, technology transfer or maintenance, and operations.

  • Understanding and applying applicable processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.

  • Driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and addressing risks.

Qualifications for the role

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.

  • At least 3 years of experience in Electronics hardware design, Power electronics (DC/DC, AC/DC) and PCB design, preferably in industrial applications.

  • Proven expertise in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Signal and Power Integrity design principles, measurement methods, debugging/troubleshooting of related issues and compliance standards.

  • Strong proficiency with electronic simulation tools, such as SPICE simulators (LTspice, PSpice, SIMetrix, etc.), EMC and Signal Integrity tools (Ansys Electronics, HFSS, SIWave, etc.), CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB design (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, Mentor).

  • Proficiency in the use of test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, function generators, Spectrum Analyzers, VNAs) to carry out laboratory tests on prototypes, PCBAs and devices.

  • Experience in the use of soldering stations for prototyping and PCBA rework.

  • Knowledge of PCB/PCBA fabrication and assembly process (SMT, wave/selective, THT, THR) and automatic verification/testing (ICT, AOI, FCT). Basic knowledge of IPC guidelines is a plus

  • Strong problem solving attitude, innovation mindset, and ability to work in a fast environment.

  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written).
