Join our dynamic Infectious Disease Developed Markets team in South Portland, ME, as a Senior Instrument Operations Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will be an integral part of the Global Instruments Operations organization, driving manufacturing process improvements and spearheading quality and cost-saving initiatives. Your expertise will ensure compliance with cGMP, quality, and safety standards, contributing to our mission of excellence in the healthcare industry. What You’ll Work On
- Independently plans and conducts small to medium-size projects requiring conventional types of plans, investigations, and/or equipment
- Manage all aspects of instrument operation to ensure consistent, robust, and reliable delivery within defined business supply/demand requirements.
- Conduct meetings and prepare reports to communicate project status.
- Resolve operational problems and minimize delays at internal and external manufacturing locations and vendor sites.
- Directs the efforts of others such as technicians and outside resources
- Mentors' others by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers and technicians.
- Set priorities, allocate tasks, and coordinate project staff to meet targets and milestones.
- Drive material progress daily to achieve Global Instrument Operations group business goals.
- Lead initiatives to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce costs
- Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems from the product line/process to minimize reject levels and increase throughput
- Supports design of experiments, validation, completion of testing and analysis of data for continuous improvement activities.
- Provides training to technicians and operators on Standard Operating Procedures.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Demonstrates knowledge of applicable safety/quality standard and practices required in the manufacture of Abbott products through personal work habits.
- Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, effectively managing tasks and making informed decisions independently
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4 years of related experience in a similar role.
- 2 years of experience in a process development/improvement role.
- Familiarity with NC and CAPA processes.
- In-depth understanding of risk management principles and methodologies.
- Experience operating in an organization adhering to ISO, FDA, or comparable quality systems and regulations.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical and optical diagrams and technical specifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six-Sigma Experience: Green Belt or Higher
- Experience with Statistical Analysis Software (JMP/Minitab)
- Intermediate/Advanced SolidWorks Experience
- 6+ years of diverse experience in high volume production setting as a process, design, or automation engineer

The base pay for this position is $75,300.00 – $150,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
