The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park IL location.
The Senior Communications Specialist and Social Media reports to the Senior Manager, Employee Advocacy and Engagement, will lead efforts to build global employee engagement in Abbott’s purpose, and drive external advocacy efforts to help make Abbott a trusted household name.
This position plays an important role in reaching and engaging Abbott’s 114,000 employees globally. As a key member of the Employee Communications team, this individual will work closely with colleagues leading employee storytelling and digital engagement to identify the most effective strategies, content, and activations to build employee connections with Abbott’s purpose and spread the word about the great things the company does.
What You’ll Do
The Senior Specialist supports Abbott’s employee advocacy program, which enables employees around the world to share Abbott news across platforms. This role will partner with business and regional leaders in marketing and public affairs to increase employee participation with key global initiatives and deepen employee pride and connection to Abbott, so they become our most powerful advocates. The Senior Specialist must be a strong writer – able to incorporate the brand story and communications strategy into engaging and impactful content. This role will also support activation for global programs.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Manage content creation, editorial calendar and engagement for Abbott’s employee advocacy program. This includes supporting operations, training, metrics and expansion.
- Creates engaging social media captions, ensures the strategic content schedule is followed, reviews and submits user-generated content for approval, and manages inquiries.
- Provide continuous engagement opportunities for advocacy members and support the measurement strategy, identifying key performance indicators.
- Support global employee engagement programs across Abbott.
- As requested, assist with corporate marketing or public affairs employee engagement initiatives.

- Is adept at managing multiple stakeholders at varying levels.
- Adaptable and flexible, open to engaging in new projects and adjusting work schedules for calls with overseas stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION: Minimum B.A. or B.S. degree
EXPERIENCE:5+ years’ experience in communications, public relations, marketing or social media.
- Experienced social media content strategist and writer.
- Exceptional communication skills; presentation, oral, written, and listening.
- Able to achieve results while working with global, diverse populations and dealing with ambiguity and a rapid pace of change.
- Demonstrates proactive behaviors, assumes responsibility, and ensures accountability.
- Experienced collaborator across multi-disciplinary and global project teams.
- Strong creative and critical thinking skills.
- Global work experience a plus.

The base pay for this position is $75,300.00 – $150,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
