The Opportunity
This position works out of our Tech Center in St. Paul/Little Canada, MN in the EP division.
In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
The Senior Systems Engineer will support the Systems Verification team by leading investigations, analysis, and test planning/execution activities associated with the development of larger medical device systems (including Hardware, Software, and Catheters on Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) team.
What You’ll Work On
- Lead System Integration efforts with regards to planning and execution for systems and sub-systems related to new product development, research and technology, or sustaining engineering projects
- Core team lead for Systems Verification function related to new product development or sustaining engineering projects
- Lead development of new test equipment/fixtures/methods along with required validations
- Accountable for on-time completion of project deliverables as related to Systems Verification function
- Provide Verification and Validation perspective to R&D during product development lifecycle: requirements analysis, product and test designs, defect reviews, user workflows, field complaint investigations, etc.
- Problem documentation and resolution; resolves and/or facilitates the resolution of problems including identification of root cause
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Maintain high standards for content completion, integrity, and regulatory & standards compliance
- Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments
- Maintain positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by functional management based on the current project/business objectives including 10% travel, including international travel and regular predictable attendance
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software or Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 6 years of professional engineering experience, progressively more responsible work experience in medical product development and/or a graduate degree with relevant project experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Systems Engineering/Verification and Validation experience
- Advanced (Masters) degree
- Team leadership experience
- FDA regulated industry experience
- Organized, on-time, and detailed project management skills
- Energized attitude, proactive thinker and self-starter
- Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
- Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects

The base pay for this position is $75,300.00 – $150,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
