Primary Function

  • Lead capital projects in the Asia Region and achieve cost, scope, and schedule targets by
  • leveraging regional strengths & resources to meet the business goals across Abbott Nutrition Supply Chain.
  • The Project Manager draws on his/her multi-disciplinary experience – engineering, process
  • design, automation, operations, and construction management etc. to achieve these goals.
  • Most capital projects are between USD 1.0 Million to USD 50 Million and multiple projects
  • are managed at a given point in time, requiring various implementation timeline and sites
  • locations.
  • The Project Manager must develop and manage capital and expense cash flow budgets as
  • well as manage project teams in a Matrix structure, to achieve project results.
  • This person also directs internal and external resources to accomplish the project goals to
  • the satisfaction of the client and the business expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the client’s functional requirements and prepare the project scope in terms of
  • performance, quality, reliability, and maintainability in agreement with the client and other
  • functions — MIS, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Marketing and Operations.
  • Develop project execution strategy, identify activities, prepare schedules, evaluate risks,
  • prepare risk mitigation plans, and determine the resources necessary for successful
  • implementation.
  • Manage project team’s efforts to develop the project proposal, design criteria; scope
  • definition, cost estimates, and execution schedules that are required for RCE preparation.
  • Lead project teams to ensure full compliance with internal and external standards —
  • Company standards, national and regional standards, including Safety and EHS standards.
  • Communicate the status of each project to senior management and other internal and
  • external parties, routinely.
  • Provide expert engineering, processing, and project management guidance and oversight
  • to new manufacturing projects initiated in Asia region.
  • Facilitate regional perspective to manufacturing process design in agreement with local /
  • national standards and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Provide process engineering and project management support to regional manufacturing
  • operations and act as primary liaison with the E&IT Global Engineering Groups to identify
  • and provide project management support.
  • Provide critical engineering support and guidance during plant/process start-up and
  • commissioning.
  • Provide expert engineering guidance and support to manufacturing operations across
  • Asian Nutritional Sites to help resolve issues both during project execution and
  • routine manufacture.
  • Facilitate project technical support during Bidding, Negotiation, and Construction phases of
  • the projects. Be responsible for interpretation of design intent of bidding and contract
  • document packages.
  • Work with sites to develop Long Range Capital Plan and Site Master Plans that
  • are in alignment with the larger goals of the division and corporation.
  • Lead and/or provide guidance to sites in the Front End Planning activities, including
  • development of the project scope, design and cost estimates, schedule development, and
  • project execution plans on process improvement projects
  • Maintain clear communication lines with all sites to ensure consistent deployment of best in
  • class practices and equipment
  • Plan and schedule work in accordance with plant demands and available
  • resources.
  • Lead proposed manufacturing scenarios for new product introductions early to determine
  • manufacturability, capital cost, and schedule issues. Identify capital requirements to
  • manufacture these products when required
  • Interface with Asia regional R&D center to align on upcoming and future product trends that
  • could impact manufacturing
  • Assess contract manufacturing facilities for their ability to manufacture products and
  • provide recommendations for process upgrades if required

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from reputed institute
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration, desirable but not mandatory.
  • Other: Basic psychology, accounting and writing courses would be helpful and registration
  • as a professional engineer is desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Engineering degree is essential to managing engineering projects in the Company due
  • to large number of technical decisions that must be made. Often these decisions are
  • very critical to product quality to the customer, Safety and security of the Company’s
  • Employees and contractors working on the project, and bottom-line impact to business
  • goals and bottom-line.
  • MBA or equivalent business experience would provide the incumbent with the
  • background needed to manage budgets, cash flows, and aid with personnel
  • management.
  • Professional engineering registration could be an asset when dealing with consultants
  • and contractors who often have professional engineers on their staff.
  • Substantial large capital project experience along with Project Management certification
  • provides the necessary background to be successful in this role
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and
  • nutritionals.
  • At least 10 years Project Engineering, Engineering related work or applicable business
  • experience is required
  • At least 8 years Project structured work experience such as a project engineer, consultant, project team member, etc.
  • In addition to the above the incumbent must have acquired a broad range of engineering
  • and management skills, specifically in the Nutritional or FMCG industry, with good
  • understanding of manufacturing operations.
  • The Project Manager must have a working knowledge of engineering functions, cost control
  • system and scheduling techniques and be able to deal with contractors and A&E firms.
  • The Project Manager must have a working knowledge of the technical aspects of unit
  • operations -- Liquid Processing, Spray Drying, Nutritional Product Manufacturing systems
  • and industry and corporate standards and procedures.
  • Good human relations and outstanding presentation skills are essential to successfully
  • interface with Executive Management at the Company, to manage team members in a
  • Matrix environment and to successfully deal with external suppliers.
  • Minimum 12 years of overall working experience required
