The Opportunity

We have an immediate opening in our Abbott Park, IL or Chicago, IL Location for a Procurement Specialist – Marketing within our Global Procurement Services (GPS) division.

As a Specialist, you will lead procurement activities for the stakeholders to bring best value for Abbott Laboratories. You will be responsible for executing against the purchasing and supply management strategies created by the Category Managers. Work intimately with Stakeholders, divisions and the Category managers driving the "One Abbott Procurement" model. Provide superior levels of customer service and satisfaction while adhering to a strict standard of business ethics and integrity. You will have delegated authority to commit company funds. You will work on the definition and resolution of known or anticipated problems in value, quality, feasibility and specifications in the procurement of goods and services while contributing cost savings, partnerships with suppliers and other value-added activities to support customer needs and expectations.

What You’ll Work On

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Be a recognized expert across categories, leveraging your deep understanding of "One Procurement" strategies to influence impactful projects.

  • Goal Achievement: Execute against goals set by Category Leads/Managers/Directors, continuously seeking innovative ways to enhance procurement processes.

  • Strategic Execution: Implement larger category strategies under the guidance of strategic leaders, balancing strategy and operations seamlessly.

  • Leadership Role: Coordinate and lead work within your area of expertise, guiding colleagues and acting as a pivotal resource.

  • Product & Supplier Evaluation: Conduct thorough research and value analysis on services and suppliers, recommending process improvements for efficiency.

  • Lead Innovation: Drive transformative improvements in procurement processes, cycle times, and customer service levels.

  • Problem Solving: Analyze complex issues and deliver innovative solutions, supporting PO conversion and decisive negotiations.

  • PO Management: Oversee PO approvals up to $200,000, manage change, and resolve operational issues and invoice errors.

  • Supplier Integration: Enable supplier integration and drive KPI achievement, fostering strong business relationships.

  • Value Creation: Lead savings initiatives and collaborate across functions to drive value.

  • Bid & Proposal Development: Develop and lead agency reviews/complex RFPs and manage small projects.

  • Expert Guidance: Provide advice and direction in your primary areas of expertise, educating teams on procurement processes.

  • Strategy Development: Develop and lead purchasing strategies, establish relationships with diverse suppliers, and ensure superior customer satisfaction.

  • Performance Management: Mentor and manage procurement personnel, providing guidance and training to specialists.

  • Cultural Awareness: Apply cultural awareness in dealings with foreign business entities, driving compliance with corporate policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree: Marketing, Business, Logistics, Engineering, Science or Financial Degrees

  • 2-4 years of or Procurement experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPM certification desired

  • 2+ years of functional experience within Marketing Procurement or Agency Experience

  • Project management skills.

  • Excellent people skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheet programs

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills

The base pay for this position is $60,000.00 – $120,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
