Job Description
The Laboratory Automation Sr. Specialist role is responsible for spearheading the implementation of technical solutions and interventions, primarily through automation, targeting routine and repetitive lab work resulting in increased productivity and/or throughput, and consistent execution of laboratory processes and procedures in partnership with scientists and technical experts in support of overall enhancement of lab operations. May act as lead process support, project leader, or project contributor.
Provide technical support to cross-functional teams at multiple site locations for existing automation routines through troubleshooting and problem solving.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Evaluates and integrates relevant automation advances or technologies for improving, increasing efficiency, or solving problems.
- Understands the business implications of assigned projects and processes and identifies automation solutions compatible with business needs on a global scale.
- Designs and executes automation experiments to test hypothesis related to project outcomes, applying scientific knowledge to projects. Assures experimental quality through sound, independent, experimental design.
- Independently programs, tests, and validates new methods/optimizes existing scripts.
- Drives implemented automation solutions through technical or programming troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Resolves complex issues associated with automation projects and automated workflows.
- Responsible for timely project completion. Provides or maintains detailed documentation using suitable IT tools. Communicates updates and activity progress against desired timelines.
- Presents results of projects, both internally and externally.
- Mentors/trains less experienced automation specialists and provides technical direction and feedback/training to users. May supervise interns.
- Develops productive collaborations and communications across functions.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in technical field such as automation, computer science, computer programming, engineering with 4-6 years of experience in a laboratory environment; or equivalent related work experience is required.
- MS with 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory environment is required.
- Experience adapting and/or integrating off-the-shelf solutions to automate laboratory workflows.
- Strong computer, coding, and mechanical skills as applicable to laboratory automation platforms, such as liquid handlers, laboratory robotic equipment, and integration multiple instruments/devices into a single workflow.
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to quickly become proficient in instrument-native programming platforms.
- Well-developed communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritize time and effort effectively to meet deadlines and achieve deliverables.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
