Job Description
In May 2020, Abbvie pharmaceuticals acquired Allergan plc, a company that consisted of both a pharmaceutical and aesthetics division, featuring major products such as Botox and Juvéderm fillers. The strategy following the acquisition has been to merge the pharma business into AbbVie’s portfolio while simultaneously creating a new aesthetics business, Allergan Aesthetics. The Aesthetics business is split between US, our largest market, and International, which is all markets outside of the US. We have approximately 82 markets within International.

China is the largest and most strategically significant market within Allergan Aesthetics International. Not only is it the largest market with revenue of $600MM, but it will grow to become a $1BN market in the coming years. From a technology perspective, China has a unique technology stack as compared to the rest of the world, whilst leveraging global systems for enterprise-wide processes.
The Data lead role is a hybrid role, with 70% focus in China, and 30% for APACMEA region. The role is based in China. It presents a unique opportunity to lead the China Data Strategy, working across local functional and business teams to maintain data standards, quality, and governance. The individual will be responsible for introducing new data management capabilities to China, ensuring data accuracy and consistency, and optimizing data operations and the data lifecycle. This will enable business users to make fast, informed decisions.
The regional focus, on the other hand, will support strategic discussion with regional leadership and International Head of BI, to provide a strategic voice for the 30+ countries as input to international BI Capability Roadmap, and drive operational excellence through defined KPIs.
Major responsibilities:
To be successful in this role, you would need to have …
- Foundational base in Data and Data related tooling, working with data cubes, reporting aggregators Experience working with large language models (LLMs) and generative models, understanding the different architectures and capabilities of these advanced AI systems. Knowledge of how to select, define, and fine-tune these models in collaboration with technical experts.
- Worked with a team of technologists, both in-house and external vendors to deliver quality product offerings to multiple geographies whilst ensuring a “platform approach” rather than point solutions.
- Understanding the lifecycle of the software product and expectations around this from ideation to conception to development to implementation to evaluation and fine tuning.
- Work with senior stakeholders within the business to showcase the opportunities exposed by the technology and also implement capabilities in new affiliates.
China:
- Lead the overall China Data strategy with key focus on Data management, data harmonization across platforms, Introduce data standards and governance across business teams. Champions best practices in data management in China.
- Manages overall data architecture and manages, develops, prioritizes, and recommends initiatives to improve and build upon the data architecture to support the business.
- Responsible for user experience with data and reporting tools.
- Overseas data accuracy processes, drive data quality with specific measurements (KPIs). Work with business data owners to drive master data management tool discussion (e.g. MDM), and improvement in data governance, process efficiency and data accuracy.
- Ensures rigorous adherence to ISRM data security policies and compliance with local regulations and data privacy laws, including CSL, CBDT and PIPL.
Region:
- Lead the Data management and analysis capability discussion for region and local affiliates through close collaboration with international and global data teams.
- Support the pull through BI capabilities from International to Region and APAC MEA affiliates, partnering with International BI Tower leadership, and local affiliates’ BRM. This includes key BI platforms like Connect, C360, AMI analytics, etc. Actively provides priorities and requirements to form regional BI roadmaps.
- Implement Regional data governance and advocate data standards include data dictionary, data curriculum and catalogue.
- Drive Operational efficiencies: Support the development and refinement of key data-related policies, playbook, and support system adoption through processes and clearly defined KPIs.
- Actively participate in strategic data discussions across the organization, seeking to mature data practices and evolve the use of data to offer new ways to improve operational efficiency.
- Be a change champion and an advocator for deploying technology with a tangible business value.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in information technology, or business-related course.
- 7-10years of overall experience and success in working in a business centric, complex, progressive, multi-stakeholder, matrix environment, with 3-5 years in a data or product development role.
- Experience in BI product development or BI transformation. Proven success in implementing BI and innovative solution.
- Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage change and drive innovation.
- Experience in leading IT and business into new technologies and open to new ideas.
- Strong ability to connect unrelated concepts and generate original or unique ideas.
- Experience working with machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms and models, understanding different learning models and knowledge on how to select, define and fine tune models with technical experts.
- Experience in Shaping IT portfolio alignment business priorities to key technology strategies.
- Extensive experience working with remote teams and vendor resources, matrix driven global organization. Proven record of leading cross functional project teams and working across organization boundaries
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of data modelling and analytics tools, and machine learning models
- Strong Knowledge of business process mapping, and diverse systems environments; with focus in Data stacks, data management and analytics.
- Expertise in agile or iterative project execution methodologies.
- Innovative mindset - keep up with latest technology and trends.
- Strong Business engagement, interpreting business needs into technology solutions.
Communicate effectively with both technical and business leadership to ensure successful deployment for both localization of global platforms or local proprietary needs.
- Ability to influence and advise executive leadership on the best use of technology; as well as justify and lead large scale commercial programs.
- ability to work closely with the business, and partner with them in developing IT systems.
- Strong ability to de-mystify complex technical subjects and ideas for non-technical audiences.
