Job Description

This role has the following five major areas of responsibility:

Operations:

  • Overall responsibility for managing and operating the End-to-End (E2E) payroll process for countries in the Area. Including:
    • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and results
    • Ensure effective and efficient payroll processes based on payroll operating model, including compliance with payroll governance SOPs/DTPs
    • Drives and ensures compliance with payroll operating model and SOPs/DTPs
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls
  • Plan, manage and control periodic/quarterly/semi-annual/annual payroll requirements
  • Identify, track and resolve operational issues and improvement opportunities within the Area. Escalate major issues to the Regional payroll leader.
  • Lead as AbbVie subject matter expert on local payroll requirements and related tax matters. Liaise with payroll provider and other local resources as needed to address questions/issues in this area.
  • Create a Business Continuity Plan for the area of responsibility

Vendor Management

  • Control payroll provider operations to ensure efficient and effective payroll processes
  • Control vendor accountability, including SLAs and Payroll Dashboard Metrics, timeliness of all operational responses and resolutions, and escalation processes.
  • Control of all CRs raised in Latin America, both by own team as well as the vendor.

Projects and Process Improvements

  • Proactively identify and prioritize operational improvement opportunities. Review with Regional Manager and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the implementation and deliver target results for projects impacting the Area
  • Be a valued partner on projects impacting payroll, providing advice in terms of administrative efficiency and tax implications

Stakeholder Management

Stakeholder relationships to manage include:

  • Payroll Business Process Outsourcer (BPO) across all countries in the area
  • Affiliate & Area BHR Directors & Finance Directors
  • Corporate HR Total Rewards
  • AbbVie Corporate Finance (Treasury, Tax, AFS)
  • Internal & External Audit; External Tax Authorities
  • Payroll IT support team

Organization Management

  • Manage Payroll team supporting the 13 LATAM countries
  • Build and lead the Payroll team.
  • Develop succession planning within the area organization
  • Establish and achieve/exceed operating goals and operational metrics for the team and each team member.
  • Design and implement organization to ensure effective back-up/support of payroll analysts to eliminate support gaps in the event of vacation/leave/turnover

Other

  • Coordinates and aligns with Regional and Affiliate leaders on short-term and long-term vision for payroll operations and organization
  • Participate in and drive strategic initiatives identified by Global Payroll Leaders and AbbVie corporate.
  • The position reports to AbbVie Regional Payroll Manager
  • The position has 6 direct reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Finance / Accounting or related field required.
  • 8+ years of payroll operational experience and experience leading payroll or shared services teams required. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Workday and experience integrating with 3rd party applications.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Strong customer orientation and interpersonal skills. A work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, in English
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, as well as to get results through collaboration and coordination with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Good analytical and process diagnostic skills and the ability to get into the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture. Strong spreadsheet and database skills. Continuous improvement orientation.
  • Strong project management and implementation skills, including leading large cross-functional projects. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and requests.
  • Strong people management skills.

Additional Information

  • This role follows a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days in-office per week

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​
