Job Description
The 340B Drug Pricing program has become a critical issue impacting AbbVie’s business. Originally designed to help safety-net hospitals and clinics give better care to underserved communities, it has now grown exponentially, and deserves a greater level of focus. Over the past few years, AbbVie has implemented important strategies and policy changes to tackle this growth, but its impact on AbbVie’s portfolio and the complexity of the 340B related issues now require a more dedicated, strategically resourced approach.
Therefore, AbbVie has established a high profile, 340B Center of Excellence (COE), that brings together a team of experts who will utilize analytics and insights to drive strategy, proactively address the growth of 340B and create new solutions to issues identified within the program. COE leaders will work with Government Affairs and Legal to develop longer-term solutions and shape reforms while simultaneously collaborating with essential partners, including the Marketing, Finance, Market Access, Public Affairs and other key partners to deliver meaningful business solutions and impact.
The 340B Director of Strategy and Innovation is a deep technical expert in the business implications and operations of the 340B program; responsible for leading a team that monitors internal business processes and the external landscape to areas of exposure, 340B abuses and growth drivers and develops near and long-term strategies to address findings and optimize growth. The Director will develop an investigative capability to initiate good faith engagements and manage the 340B ADR activity. The Director will develop materials and studies to upskill the 340B knowledge of internal and external stakeholders, to be used to inform advocacy efforts (federal, state, advocacy groups, and market influencers).
Primary responsibilities for this leadership position include, but are not limited to:
- Lead a build a high performing team, with a positive culture and ensure a high level of cross-functional coordination and strategic/tactical planning through ongoing communications as well as contributing to a positive team culture. Infuse AbbVie Ways of Working and Talent Philosophy in day-to-day leadership and management of the business.
- Lead future operational related changes and enhancements to 340B COE.
- Establish and monitor progress for operational workstreams and lead development and reporting for periodic updates to leadership
- Establish and oversee processes to perform on-going issue identification and investigation using 340B dashboard.
- Lead and/or collaborate with a variety of cross-functional workstreams to create detailed work plans and timelines for activities related to 340B planning and implementation.
- Monitor statutory and regulatory changes related to the 340B program and coordinate with stakeholders across the enterprise to our ensure company’s compliance with process optimization.
- Develop Good Faith Inquiry process and build a platform to support outgoing and incoming inquiries. Work with Legal to create a “audit ready” process and documentation capture.
- Provide 340B federal/ state legislation guidance for potential reforms.
- Develop data and analyses to support advocacy efforts by 3rd parties.
- Liaise with Pipeline Team and Business Develop to provide 340B GTN profile for potential target assets.
- Develop 340B training for the organization.
- Develop and foster robust internal relationships with other key stakeholders, including but not limited to Legal, Government Affairs, Public Affairs, Finance, Market Access/Trade, Employer Teams, MABI, BTS, etc.
**This role will require 3 days in the Mettawa office. Candidates who are not local or within a commutable distance are expected to relocate.
Qualifications
- Requires minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree a plus.
- A minimum of 10 years in the healthcare industry with significant 340B strategic and operational experience, having run or managed a 340B program within a TPA, hospital or other related 340B stakeholder. Experience should include supporting 340B audits, split-billing or accumulator vendor operations, and revenue generation tactics within 340B.
- Leadership experience, having hired and developed a team.
- Candidates should have working knowledge of the compliance and regulatory environment for manufacturers in the pharmaceutical space.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
