Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION/OBJECTIVE:
AbbVie creates products that significantly enhance the lives of patients and customers.
The Regional Transportation Manager (RTM) is tasked with ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of AbbVie products from manufacturing facilities and Central/Regional Distribution Centers to affiliates, regional customers, and patients. The RTM collaborates with various operational teams to achieve or surpass all service requirements, while adhering to security, quality, regulatory standards, and operational goals.
The role involves managing logistics service providers responsible for AbbVie’s air, road, and ocean shipments worldwide, including North America, Europe, JAPAC, or within and from JAPAC to other countries.
The RTM resolves issues as needed, conducts performance and trend analysis, and identifies tactical projects to enhance service, reduce costs, and promote sustainability. Additionally, the RTM leads and supports RFPs and tactical initiatives for the region.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage complex logistics optimization initiatives based on customer requirements defined by local Commercial Affiliates, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• Serve as the primary Transportation Subject Matter Expert (SME) for strategic logistics initiatives for products shipped into, out of, and within the region.
• Act as the day-to-day contact for regional transportation operations.
• Maintain and monitor KPIs for regional transportation providers; initiate improvement projects to address shortcomings and encourage continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Logistics Center of Excellence (CoE) to ensure alignment of regional and affiliate strategies.
• Lead management business reviews with logistic service providers.
• Implement process changes to achieve cost reductions.
• Drive projects in support of AbbVie’s sustainability roadmap.
• Lead and support supply chain improvement projects involving transportation.
• Build and maintain sustainable relationships with suppliers, peers, and stakeholders such as supply chain planning and affiliates.
• Support and lead regional projects as a Project Management Office (PMO) role to ensure implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Resolve operational issues with suppliers, supply planning, affiliates/customers, and other stakeholders.
• Initiate and implement continuous improvement suggestions with internal or external parties.
• Document logistics processes in the training management tool and sustain procedures.
Key Stakeholders:
• Distribution and Logistics team JAPAC, affiliate, Distribution and Logistics leadership team, all AbbVie Logistics functions, Regional Commercial Leadership, Procurement Managers, AbbVie Supply Chain Management Staff.
Qualifications
• Possess a broad business perspective with knowledge and understanding of supply chain and logistics processes; Bachelor's degree in Business or Supply Chain preferred, MBA is a plus.
• Fluent in English.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in logistics planning, distribution operations, transportation operations, and project management.
• Proven history of delivering transportation solutions and managing Third Party Logistics Providers, experience with 4PLs is a plus.
• Experience working across geographies with international reporting structures and team membership/ leadership.
• Strong strategic planning skills and expertise in logistics network design, strategic modeling, and supply chain operations.
• Proficient in common software tools such as MS Project, PowerPoint, MS Word, and Excel with strong knowledge of business financial systems and tools.
• Desirable experience with international or local pharmaceutical regulatory/QA knowledge.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Driven by customer focus and partnership collaboration.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with excellent follow-up skills and the ability to work independently.
