Job Description

The US Commercial Associate Director, Pricing OPS (Chargebacks, Returns Valuation, and Customer Management Operations) primary goal is to positively impact US Therapeutics by effectively supporting all therapeutic areas and business franchises for all AbbVie pharmaceutical products (~360 product NDCs across AbbVie’s portfolio) related to Chargebacks, Returns Valuation, and Customer Management Operations. This includes responsibility for processing daily Chargebacks, spanning approximately $10B across all AbbVie’s brand portfolio annually. Collaborating with Market Access Trade/Wholesaler Team on Distribution Service Agreements (DSA) contract language, addressing Accounts Receivable topics, and strategy changes pertaining to Chargebacks and Returns Valuation.

The incumbent will be responsible for the ongoing management of US Commercial Indirect Customer Master (150,000+ customers), contract membership eligibility, and the customer Class of Trade (COT) assignment function; ensuring accurate customer identification, as required to support compliance with both Government Price (GP) reporting and accurate customer pricing. Additionally, manages AbbVie’s Returns Valuation process, ensuring timely and accurate pricing of AbbVie’s allowed returns per Terms and Conditions. Maintain a strong relationship with external and internal stakeholders. Frequently collaborates with senior leaders from Finance, Market Access, Brand Management, Demand Planning and Legal on strategy impact to these channels ensuring AbbVie’s financial goals are met or exceeded.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and mentoring, as well as business and personal development to direct and indirect staff (15+). Involved in broader staffing and organizational structure decisions, including employee hiring, training, and development.
  • Direct oversight of all US Commercial indirect customers (150,000+). Understand direct and indirect customers COT impact on GP calculations. Ensuring accuracy for both customer price and government reporting compliance. Confirm compliance with monthly and quarterly audit processes. Provide support on responsibilities pertaining to product Limited Distribution Networks (LDN’s).
  • Manage the execution of 340B policies for all Abbvie products. An active leadership role collaborating with 340B COE, Legal, and 3rd party consultants on proposed policy changes by providing guidance to ensure that changes can be operationalized from a COT and Chargebacks perspective. Communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders on policy questions to facilitate AbbVie’s enforcement of its 340B policy. Oversight of accurate contracting, and customer set up. Ensure timely and accurate communication to AbbVie’s Wholesaler Trading Partners.
  • Direct oversight and support of all Wholesaler Chargebacks processing, including strong collaboration with Wholesalers, Trade Executives, Finance, Demand Planning, Customer Service, Contracts & Pricing, and other internal stakeholders. Provide support on Wholesaler audits, quarterly reporting, and ad-hoc analysis as needed. Responsible for KPI reporting and driving improvement where needed.
  • Ensure systems utilized to process Chargebacks, Returns Valuation, and Customer Management Operations are meeting the needs to perform daily tasks. Communicate and support enhancements needed to address inefficiencies.
  • Oversee Terms and Conditions execution, approvals, and publication.
  • Manage the Returns Valuation process, ensuring compliance with Terms and Conditions. Drive automation and accurate and timely valuation. Collaborate with 3rd party vendor as needed to execute returns, supporting accuracy and efficiency through automation.
  • Drive vision for process efficiencies, team culture, KPI’s, and collaboration across key cross functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with AbbVie’s written policies, procedures, SOX, and standards of conduct. Provide support on audit pertaining to Wholesalers as needed.
  • Individual is expected to successfully perform all the above core job responsibilities with a high degree of self-motivation and autonomy.

Supervisory/Management

  • Direct and lead staff of 15+
  • Minimum Education: BA/BS required (MBA preferred) plus 12+ years business experience, preferably with a concentration in Finance/Accounting, Pricing, and/or Government Pricing

  • Incumbent must have excellent oral and written communication skills as job responsibilities include communicating with and presenting to various levels of management within AbbVie.
  • Demonstrate cross-functional team leadership; strong executive presence; establish ability to work with diverse individuals, customers, and teams.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership, management, coaching/mentoring of teams and individuals, and talent development.
  • The job can be demanding at times due to the dynamic nature of the government area, the evolving legislative and legal environment, and changing management priorities. Therefore, it requires ability to respond to change and to continually reprioritize to satisfy demands of a rapidly changing environment.
  • A solid understanding of the Medicaid laws, Medicaid/Medicare Fraud & Abuse statutes, Anti-Trust Laws, State Transparency Laws and AbbVie’s Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Problem solving, accuracy and integrity are key competencies of this position. Extremely strong organizational skills along with a high degree of follow through are requirements.
  • Very strong Excel skills mandatory and proficiency with revenue management systems (i.e. Model N) and PowerBI preferred, interfaces and database relationships is key.
