Job Description
The Associate Director of Construction & Contractor Safety is responsible for managing the development, implementation/maintenance, global oversight and governance of environment, health and safety (EHS) programs within the scope of responsibility. Take action to minimize risk to employees and facilities and reduce the company’s environmental footprint. Minimize EHS liability for the company.
Responsibilities
- The Associate Director of Construction & Contractor Safety is a people manager role that will drive past compliance, to implement best in industry performance and the AbbVie culture of Zero Believe it. Achieve it safety where employees take ownership of their safety and speak up to drive improvement.
- The Construction / Contractor Safety leader will be a visible, trusted leader across all levels of the company, spending time in the field observing, coaching, and reinforcing best practices on active jobsites.
Key Objectives/Deliverables:
- Provide technical support to oversee AbbVie construction contractor safety programs, tools, training, and compliance efforts to meet or exceed regulatory compliance.
- Partner with cross functional teams to develop, establish, and sustain EHS systems, processes, and programs.
- Lead thorough investigations of incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, ensuring lessons learned are widely shared and acted upon.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce incidents and enhance leading indicator performance.
- Ensure innovation with Artificial Intelligence and new technologies have highest level safety considerations imbedded.
- Consistent implementation of AbbVie internal technical standards across all projects. Implement best practices from AbbVie’s EHS network.
- Introduce automated tools and technology for safety compliance, analysis, and evaluation.
- Partner with construction company to ensure highest standard of Construction / contractor employee health & safety.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Experience presenting EHS KPIs to Senior leadership.
- Experience with major construction projects and Greenfield sites.
- Professional Certifications: e.g., Project management
- Certifications within Environmental, health, safety and construction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (EHS related, Engineering) plus 10+ years of EHS related experience or Master’s Degree (EHS related, Engineering) plus 8-10 years of EHS related experience. EHS related experience in manufacturing/R&D environments is required. EHS Professional certification is preferred, but not required.
- Working experience implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, interacting with regulatory agencies and external organizations, and managing cross functional teams.
- Ability to plan against business targets, review and approve plans developed by other areas, and balance resources to achieve key business targets and strategic plan.
- Ability to define scope and magnitude of problem, provide rapid and detailed assessment, coordinate response, present short-and long-term options, and develop procedures to minimize likelihood of re-occurrence.
- Ability to actively listen, build/maintain effective working relationships with internal/external colleagues/resources, and resolve conflict.
- Ability to create a motivating environment, make decisions, influence outcomes, and negotiate to achieve agreements while successfully representing EHS in a decision situation.
- Ability to successfully manage projects and programs.
