THE WORK
Do you eat code for breakfast, love to solve technical puzzles and can’t wait to prototype? At Industry X ▪ Industrial Design, we are looking for a creative engineer that likes the fuzzy backend of coding and is comfortable with ambiguity and exploratory project briefs, especially when it concerns emerging technologies in the domains of computer vision and generative AI (genAI).
Team(s)
You’ll be part of our group of more than 70 creatives, including industrial designers, design engineers, UX/digital designers, strategists, researchers, developers, and project managers.
We are based in Eindhoven and The Hague, and work closely together between both studio spaces. You will work from one office, traveling to the other office occasionally.
You will get a dedicated mentor to help you define your learning goals and find the projects that suit you and your goals best.
Daily tasks
Design, prototype, test, and review product concepts and help with feasibility studies
Come up with innovative, technology-based solutions to design problems
Work on tasks that include e.g. systems thinking, component sourcing, firmware development, vision AI in the edge, GenAI in the cloud (Azure), etc.
Work on multiple projects simultaneously (lead time from 3 weeks to multiple months), in variety of project teams.

Period: 5 – 6 months
Hours a week: 40
Location: Eindhoven or The Hague

Qualifications
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED
A hands-on can-do attitude
Being comfortable in doing explorative work without pre-defined requirements and work on multiple projects at the same time.
It will help if you have experience with one or more of these topics:
C++ , Python, Git (Github), Next.js (Vanilla JS, Typescript in React)
Embedded platforms (e.g. Arduino/ESP32 and Raspberry Pi), computer vision projects (e.g. training custom models based on Yolo)
Linux environments (e.g. use of cli with terminal, setting up services with systemd, etc.)
Prototyping interactive demos with MQTT or similar, blending physical and digital
Foundational knowledge of computer systems (e.g. IP networks), electronics, cloud deployments, common design patterns for firmware and software development (e.g. state machines, micro-services, etc.)
Proficiency in English
You are enrolled at a university during the entire length of the internship, pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Design Engineering, (embedded) Software Engineering, Information Technology, Mechatronic Engineering, Embedded Systems or similar.
You are a EU citizen or enrolled at a Dutch university.

Familiarity with Git for version control and experience with RTOS and/or VM based languages
