Job Description

Ares is looking for an exceptional Senior Associate with approximately 4-5 years of experience in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Corporate Finance or Fund Accounting.

The Corporate FP&A team currently consist of ten members and works in a very team-oriented environment supporting our major investment groups along with our business development, strategic initiatives and business operations teams. The candidate must be passionate about understanding the fundamentals of corporate finance, the aptitude to embrace technological workflows enhancements as well as a desire to go deep in our investment groups as required. This opportunity will provide the successful candidate the opportunity to partner across our enterprise with fund accounting, corporate accounting, divisional CFOs, senior investment professionals, senior finance leadership, information technology resources and programmers.

Primary functions and essential responsibilities

Ares is looking to hire a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual who has a desire to enhance their knowledge of financial modeling, enterprise forecasting and budgeting processes. The candidate will join the Corporate FP&A team in Los Angeles or New York as part of the larger Finance organization focused on supporting our Secondaries and Strategic Initiatives segments, business operations and public investor relations. The FP&A team has an enterprise-wide mandate to provide decision support analytics to our leadership team in support of our corporate goal of increasing our value to shareholders and investors as we continue to grow our top line revenues while managing expenses to increase our margins. The candidate will work closely with more senior members in the team, primarily providing support and reporting to Vice President in group who is responsible for Secondaries business budgeting, forecasting and internal reporting, as well as providing analysis and insights across the broader Ares platform to ensure our obligations to the business are met.

Qualifications

Education:

  • College graduate, MBA preferred, from a top academic institution with a degree in Finance, Economics, Business Data Analytics or related fields strongly preferred

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of FP&A, corporate finance or fund accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with financial planning applications (Oracle, Hyperion, OneStream, Power BI, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of Income Statements, Balance Sheets and Cost Center functionality
  • Must have extremely strong analytical, data management and financial modeling skills
  • Experience building, maintaining or working with relationship, hierarchical, SQL or Access databases preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and driven with ability to multitask and to work effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Team-oriented with strong sense of ownership
  • Technically proficient with all MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint

General Requirements:

The position requires the ability to execute multiple business models across our portfolio of businesses and effectively translate financials into one cohesive package for senior management. This requires a broad understanding of both the business’s historical performance as well as an understanding of the key assumptions that are likely to impact future performance. Given the size of our organization, collaboration and business partnership are a requirement; relationship development across functions and business lines is a necessity to succeed.

The candidate will be based in Los Angeles or New York and work closely with the Corporate FP&A team supporting the Ares business with responsibility for:

  • Secondaries reporting support across Secondaries sub-segment investment groups and business operations
  • Preparation of periodic financial reporting for internal stakeholders
  • Assets Under Management “AUM” and related metrics public reporting
  • Database creation and management in support of our enterprise projects – finance and information technology
  • Financial modeling – in support of enterprise-wide financial and strategic decisions

Reporting Relationships

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$120,000 - $140,000
