The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our established Civil Engineering team in London. Our team forms part of Arup’s Energy, Water and Resources (EWR) South group which consists of approximately 130 engineers and technicians. Our civils engineers are typically generalists with experience across multiple technical skills as well as great integration and collaboration behaviours. We are looking to recruit engineers with skills ranging across utilities, drainage design/modelling, pavement, civil structural, water treatment, flood management, site development, external works, coordination, energy transmission, coastal management etc.
Our client base is wide including, Architects, Water companies, Energy suppliers, Local Authorities, Developers, D&B contractors, Government Agencies, Transport System Owner and Operators. We work across all stages of projects from initial concept all the way through to construction support.
Reporting to the Civil Engineering South Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, planning resources and monitoring commercial performance
- Leading the civil engineering design on projects. This includes preparation and review of technical deliverables including drawings, reports, specifications and presentations
- Producing bid documents and supporting general business development activities
- Contributing to a culture of technical excellence and the development of technical skills within the wider team through planning and delivery of initiatives and training
- Embracing our Culture, Equity and Inclusion strategy and vision, both through your own behaviour and influencing others
- In due course, line managing a small number of technical staff (engineers and technicians) including appraisals and performance development.
What we're looking for
A highly motivated individual, you will have achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status of a relevant professional institution (such as ICE or equivalent). Your qualifications, skills and experience will include:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (typically MEng, BEng or MSc) or similar
- Strong technical background in one or more areas relevant to civil engineering (earthworks, roads and streets, public realm, utilities, flood risk and drainage) as a core specialism, as well as a wider interest in a complementary aspect of infrastructure development (planning and project management, sustainability, carbon management, infrastructure resilience, etc).
- Experience of relevant design tools which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Bently 3D AECOsim, Microdrainage and GIS.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, and an ability to interact collaboratively with clients and other members of professional teams with confidence
- An ability to manage a complex and varied workload often involving multiple concurrent projects
- A track record of successful project completion in UK and/or internationally
- An ability to motivate and lead others
- An ability to focus on design excellence and personal motivation to strive continuous quality improvement
