High Voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure is a key enabler for decarbonised energy transmission, storage, and interconnection.

The Opportunity

This is your chance to contribute your expertise in electrical and civil drafting for HV substations, supporting high‑impact energy projects across Spain and Europe. You will play a key role in producing high‑quality drawings or BIM models for step‑up substations, collector substations, renewable plants and BESS facilities.

As a HV Substations Electrical & Civil Drafter (Senior) at Arup, you will:

• Develop Electrical Drafting for HV Substations

• Produce and update single‑line and multi‑line AC/DC diagrams.

• Prepare equipment layout drawings for outdoor switchyards and indoor buildings.

• Design cable routing, cable trays, conduits and underground duct banks.

• Generate cable schedules, Bill of Materials (BOM) and signal lists.

• Draft lighting, small power and auxiliary systems drawings.

• Produce control and protection panel schematics and wiring diagrams.

• Develop Civil and Linear Infrastructure Drafting

• Prepare civil works and foundation drawings for substation equipment.

• Produce drawings for roads, drainage systems, fencing and perimeter enclosures.

• Develop longitudinal and cross‑section profiles for linear works.

• Generate topographic plans, site layouts drawings.

• Implement and use custom AutoCAD dynamic block libraries or Revit families demonstrating high efficiency and sector‑specific knowledge (high priority). Experience with HV equipment Libraries of advantage.

• Manage technical documentation and drawing revisions according to internal standards and client requirements.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for someone proactive and dynamic who is willing to be part of the Energy team in Arup Madrid. Ideally, you’ll bring:

• Academic Background. Higher Vocational Training (FP Grado Superior) in Industrial Drafting, Civil Works Drafting, or similar.

• Professional Experience. Minimum 5 years of proven experience as a drafter in the electrical sector, specifically in HV/MV/LV substations or power generation plants.

• Essential Technical Skills:

• Expert proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D).

• Ability to contribute custom libraries, dynamic blocks, scripts CAD or Revit families optimised for efficiency.

• Advanced knowledge of electrical and civil symbology for substations, aligned with ANSI/IEC standards.

• Ability to interpret and translate detailed engineering from protection, control and communications engineers into accurate drawings.

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience with 3D rendering or visualization software.

• Knowledge of REE standards and Spanish utility requirements.

• Experience with document management systems (SharePoint, Aconex, etc.).

• Basic programming knowledge (e.g., LISP for AutoCAD).
