Primary Focus:
This role is to provide pipeline and hydraulic design expertise on water and wastewater projects with an expectation that this role would be filled by someone who is able to take on a Technical Director role for projects delivered across the project lifecycle (e.g. planning through to detailed design and delivery).
This role would fill Technical Lead or Design Manager roles for concept or detailed design projects of water and wastewater infrastructure as we continue to grow our Australasian water business. This role would also be expected to contribute to winning projects, outside of our currently committed workload, by being involved in bidding and promoting their specialisation (and other Arup capabilities) and technical expertise as a differentiator in the market. The ultimate clients for these projects are likely to be water utilities across ANZ. This role would work in integrated teams potentially with partners and construction contractors and would be expected to be visible as a leader both internally and externally to Arup
Through this role, you will contribute significantly to project delivery but also be expected to establish senior client relationships within water utilities across the region and continue to develop a strong reputation for Arup in delivering technically excellent work.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall Civil,
- Hydraulic and Transient Technical Outcomes for projects across the ANZ Water Group
- Represent Arup at internal and external meetings, maximising relationships developed with clients
- Execute management responsibilities as outlined in Arup’s Management System
- Meet agreed budgets and deadlines. In addition, this role may be accountable for managing the financial performance of specified opportunities, projects or initiatives
- Responsible for the development and implementation of longer-term strategic plans that will benefit the business
- Have a key involvement in recruitment, appraisals, performance development of discipline relevant members of the ANZ water team.
- As part of the ANZ management team, play a lead role in living the Arup values and culture whist supporting the morale and motivation of the team
- Provide technical leadership for projects, offering innovative solutions and in-depth knowledge.
- Act as a key collaborator in defining visionary project goals and objectives with design teams
- Spearhead and direct comprehensive planning and design efforts for water supply and distribution systems, wastewater treatment, and water infrastructure projects, defining and upholding industry leading standards and practices in water engineering
- Lead in facilitating collaboration among diverse project teams and disciplines, setting clear communication channels and be active in the development of workflow standards
- When undertaking the role of Design manager, monitor resource allocation optimization and task prioritization, ensuring highly efficient multidisciplinary coordination and delivery
- Strategically identify and prioritize key project stakeholders and their interests, serving as a top-level advisor in the field of civil and hydraulic engineering.
- Act as a technical mentor and through projects and internal opportunities, work closely with junior staff to develop and transfer knowledge to enable the upskilling of hydraulic skills within the team
Qualifications:
- Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in civil / mechanical engineering.
- A minimum of 15 years of industry experience in concept and detailed design for water and wastewater infrastructure within a consulting business environment,
- Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies, ideally chartered in relevant field,
- Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and leadership in hydraulics meeting Sydney Water’s H4 classification (or equivalent from another water utility) in the areas of:
- closed conduit hydraulics
- networks hydraulics
- treatment plant hydraulics
- open channel hydraulics
- water hammer analysis
- computation fluid dynamics modelling / analysis
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and leadership in civil / pipelines design meeting Sydney Water’s C4 classification (or equivalent from another water utility) in the areas of:
- Pipelines - Medium, DN250 to DN800)
- Pipelines – Large, >DN800 to DN1200)
- Pipelines – Major >DN1200 including trenchless technology (advantageous).
- Demonstratable ability to guide and inspire teams to achieve shared goals, leveraging diverse strengths and fostering a cooperative environment.
- Ability to build positive relationships by understanding needs and delivering value-added solutions, acting as a trusted partner.
