The Opportunity

Our water business continues to grow in response to an expanding portfolio of strategic advisory work and increasing market demand. We work with water companies, government bodies, regulators, infrastructure owners and operators, and environmental organisations including Welsh Water, Wessex Water, Severn Trent Water, Northern Ireland Water, The Nature Conservancy, Ofwat and Natural Resources Wales. We are now seeking a Senior Consultant to join our dynamic Mid‑West Strategic Water Services team. As an experienced professional, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the water sector, bringing insight, leadership and strategic thinking to complex client challenges. You will contribute senior expertise across a range of key workstreams, including investment appraisal and valuation, sustainability strategy, strategic planning (such as long‑term, adaptive and resilience planning), regulation and policy, operational and organisational resilience, and asset management and investment planning.

From your first day, you will join a collaborative community of experts where professional development is encouraged and chartership is supported. In this senior role, you will lead and deliver high‑profile client work, advise on strategic, policy and economic issues, and play a central role in managing relationships with water companies, regulators, public‑sector bodies and infrastructure operators.

What you’ll do

Working with multidisciplinary colleagues across the UK and internationally, you will help deliver forward‑looking, strategic advisory services for clients across the water sector. Your senior‑level responsibilities will include:

  • Leading delivery and commercial management of projects

  • Leading the preparation of bids and tenders

  • Managing and strengthening client relationships

  • Mentoring and line management of junior team members

  • Conducting primary and secondary research, including data analysis

  • Undertaking qualitative and quantitative assessments

  • Preparing clear, concise and compelling reports

  • Liaising closely with clients and managing multi‑stakeholder environments

  • Designing and facilitating workshops

  • Solving complex technical or strategic problems and contributing innovative solutions

  • Planning your workload to meet deadlines and maintain quality

  • Using digital tools ranging from Microsoft Office to specialist applications such as ArcGIS

  • Collaborating with teams across the UK and internationally

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a Senior Consultant with the following qualifications, attributes and skills to join our teams in Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham:

  • A minimum of a master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Geography, Science, Mathematics, Water Science or Policy, or a related discipline

    (Applicants with or working towards Masters/PhDs are welcome but not essential)

  • Chartered status with a relevant institution (preferred but not essential)

  • Strong experience in project leadership and commercial management

  • Ability to interpret client and stakeholder needs

  • Ability to take a strategic view on complex, multifaceted issues

  • Experience developing or contributing to research methods and delivering research projects

  • Ability to work proactively and independently, taking initiative where needed

  • Strong planning, organisation and time‑management skills

  • Adaptability to work across a wide range of environmental, engineering and design disciplines

  • Clear, effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
