Our technical teams address every aspect of civil engineering design, working in close collaboration with the full breadth of Arup’s other design and engineering disciplines.

The Opportunity

This is your chance to be part of the Civil & Water team in Madrid. Our team work on a diverse range of projects from city-wide and region-wide Masterplanning to infrastructure designs for water, energy, rail, highways, aviation, date centres and building property projects. We work across all phases of projects from advisory, concept, through to detailed design and construction supervision. We deliver projects for a whole host of clients and organisations including government agencies (both national and local), local authorities, private developers, contractors, and utility companies. We collaborate and support others on projects across Europe and overseas as part of an unrivalled and diverse community of local and global experts.

We are looking for a technical individual to join the team where they can grow and develop their skills. The successful candidate should have relevant experience working within a design organisation delivering work within civil engineering.

As a Senior Civil Engineer at Arup, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, planning resources and monitoring commercial performance

  • Leading the civil engineering design on projects. This includes preparation and review of technical deliverables including drawings, reports, specifications and presentations

  • Producing bid documents and supporting general business development activities

  • Contributing to a culture of technical excellence and the development of technical skills within the wider team through planning and delivery of initiatives and training

  • Embracing our Culture, Equity and Inclusion strategy and vision, both through your own behaviour and influencing others

  • Attending meetings and communicate with clients

  • In due course, line managing a small number of technical staff (engineers and technicians) including appraisals and performance development.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for a highly motivated, proactive and dynamic individual. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline

  • 10+ years of experience in a similar role

  • Strong technical background in one or more areas relevant to civil engineering (preferably earthworks, roads and streets and public realm) as a core specialism, as well as a wider interest in a complementary aspect of infrastructure development (planning and project management, sustainability, carbon management, infrastructure resilience, etc).

  • Experience of relevant design tools, which may include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, Revit, Navisworks and GIS.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and an ability to interact collaboratively with clients and other members of professional teams with confidence

  • An ability to manage a complex and varied workload often involving multiple concurrent projects

  • A track record of successful project completion in Spain and/or internationally

  • An ability to motivate and lead others

  • An ability to focus on design excellence and personal motivation to strive continuous quality improvementHigh level of spoken and written English and Spanish
