The Opportunity

Arup is seeking highly capable and motivated HVDC specialists to join our T&D Technical team as we expand our growing portfolio of HVDC projects across the UK, Europe, and emerging markets such as India. In this role, you will deliver and lead complex power system studies, transmission and substation engineering, contribute to bids and business development, and provide innovative, cost‑effective solutions that meet client needs. Based in our Delhi office, you will collaborate globally as part of a borderless HVDC team, supporting major projects—from interconnectors like NeuConnect to offshore wind developments—with opportunities for short- or long‑term relocation to Germany if desired. You will mentor team members, ensure high‑quality deliverables aligned with international standards, and play a key role in advancing resilient, sustainable HVDC infrastructure worldwide.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for individuals who

    • Master’s degree in Power Systems/Electrical Engineering from a reputed institution Chartered Engineer (CEng/PE or equivalent) preferred.
    • 12+ years of professional experience.
    • Expertise in steady‑state, dynamic, and transient power system studies using industry‑standard tools.
    • Experience in HV plant design (GIS/AIS) for large EHV grid substations.
    • Proven leadership in managing large HV electrical design teams within global consultancies.
    • National/international utility design experience (e.g., Powergrid, Tata Power, National Grid, TransGrid).
    • Strong understanding of international standards.
    • Knowledge of FACTS devices and HVDC systems.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets, tariffs, interconnection processes, and transmission planning.
    • Hands‑on experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, and Reliasoft (RAM).
    • Deep knowledge of HV equipment (AIS/GIS switchgear, transformers, breakers, busbars, disconnectors).

      Expertise in HV cable systems, earthing, protection & control, insulation coordination, and EMT studies.

      Familiarity with FACTS, HVDC technologies, and harmonic/power quality filter design.
