Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our People Movement team sits at the heart of the design process, shaping places that work for people by understanding how crowds move, interact and experience space. We work closely with architects, engineers, planners and clients to deliver inclusive, safe and high‑quality environments across transport, culture, sport and city development.

Watch this short clip to discover how Arup are shaping a better world and how you could be a part of it!

The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for an experienced Associate to join our innovative, collaborative and creative People Movement team across the UK.

In this role, you will lead a wide range of People Movement projects, from high‑profile station schemes (including major UK interchanges), sports and major event venues, and iconic cultural destinations, to integrated masterplanning, commercial developments and international projects.

You will take a leading role in winning and delivering work, acting as Project Manager and technical lead on pedestrian planning and modelling commissions. This includes overseeing analysis, reports and presentations, advising clients on outcomes, and clearly communicating technical recommendations to diverse audiences. You will be trusted to deliver technical excellence while responding to client needs and project objectives.

Alongside project delivery, this role includes acting as a National Business Development Champion for the People Movement team, supporting work‑winning activity and helping grow our profile in key markets aligned with the National People Movement business plan.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

You will be passionate about People Movement and motivated by creating places that work for everyone. You will also bring:

· A strong understanding of the role People Movement plays in the design process and its value to project outcomes

· Experience leading projects and building trusted relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams

· Demonstrated expertise in pedestrian analysis and modelling, using tools such as Legion, MassMotion and/or Viswalk, alongside analytical tools such as Excel, PowerBI, scripting and/or GIS

· Experience delivering People Movement advice across complex environments, particularly stations, sports venues and major destinations, with a focus on inclusive and holistic outcomes

· The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, producing well‑structured reports and presentations and confidently presenting recommendations to clients

You’ll also enjoy taking responsibility, being proactive, and supporting the development of others through leadership, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
