Team Leader – Circular Economy & Sustainability Strategy

Berlin (Preferred) | Germany

Shape a future with purpose at Arup.

Lead the strategic consulting services for the transition to a resilient industry.

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Our Climate & Sustainability Services (CSS) team is at the forefront of helping clients navigate the transition to circular, low-carbon, and resilient materials systems. This role strengthens our position as a trusted partner for organisations seeking to transform their value chains, operating models, and long‑term sustainability performance.

The Opportunity

This is a career‑defining chance to lead and grow a high‑performing advisory team focused on circular economy and sustainability strategy. You will focus on helping major clients navigate strategic transformations across complex value chains, acting at the critical intersection of the circular economy, innovation, and business model transformation.

As a senior leader, you will combine advisory expertise with people leadership and market insight. You will have autonomy to shape and scale strategic propositions, engage with C‑level stakeholders, and guide major organisations through investment, innovation, and transformation decisions.

The role centres on:

  • Team leadership and development
  • High impact sustainability and circular economy consulting
  • Business and market development
  • Integration of strategic advisory with engineering and technical expertise

You will lead and grow an established Berlin‑based advisory team operating within our wider German Climate & Sustainability Services and embedded in Arup’s European and global network. You will strengthen the team’s cohesion and capabilities while deepening collaboration across regions. Your work will deliver tangible outcomes for clients – reducing risk, unlocking new value, and accelerating sustainable long‑term growth.

As a Team Leader at Arup, you will:

  • Lead and develop the team
Mentor and grow a multidisciplinary, value driven advisory team. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and inclusion. Ensure clear development pathways and high-quality delivery across all engagements.
  • Shape and deliver strategic propositions
Develop and refine advisory offerings and proposals in circular economy, sustainable materials, decarbonisation, and transformation strategies. Translate market needs into differentiated, client ready propositions that enable organisations to innovate and evolve their operating models.
  • Advise senior leaders
Act as a trusted advisor to executives and C-suite clients. Guide decision-making on innovation, business model transformation, target operating models, and capital investments.
  • Drive market and commercial growth
Build market presence and pipeline together with account teams and sector leadership. Identify new opportunities and strengthen long-term client relationships.
  • Integrate capabilities and ensure excellence
Combine strategic advisory with engineering and technical expertise to deliver robust, actionable solutions. Oversee project quality, resource planning, and the operational and commercial health of the team.

Does this role inspire you?

We welcome experienced leaders with strong advisory backgrounds, including those coming from strategy, innovation, economics, or transformation roles in materials intensive or adjacent sectors. Cross sector experience is highly valued.

We are looking for:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience leading advisory teams and programmes.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, grow, and inspire high performing teams.
  • Methodological rigor and proficiency in strategy and innovation consulting practices.
  • Subject matter understanding of circular economy, innovation ecosystems, and transformation in complex value chains.
  • Strong commercial acumen and confidence when advising and negotiating at executive level.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, creativity, and strong conceptual skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Fluency in English and German due to regular senior level engagements.
