High Voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure is a key enabler for decarbonised energy transmission, storage, and interconnection.

The Opportunity

This is your chance to contribute with your skills for HV Substations. You will ensure flawless integration with collector substations, REE dispatch centers. BESS and renewable plants. This includes the delivery of high voltage-related projects for data centres, interconnectors, offshore wind, other renewables and energy storage.

As a HV Substations Senior Electrical Engineer at Arup, you will:

· Perform and lead the engineering design, technical strategy, and delivery of HV substation projects for electric utilities and for the interconnection of renewables and data centers.

· Prepare and review complete substation physical design packages including single‐line diagrams, substation physical layouts, substation equipment specifications, conduit and cable plans and details, grounding grid plan and details, lightning protection and yard lighting plans, and bills of materials.

· Perform and review substation studies and calculations including short circuit, busbar force, grounding, lightning analysis, conduit fill and voltage drop.

· Perform QA/QC for substation project deliverables

· Support bid and execution phase design and consulting services.

· Support HV Substations tendering processes up to 400 kV

· Support HV Substations owner´s engineering up to 400 kV

· Support HV Substations procurement processes up to 400 kV

· Technical Specifications of HV equipment

· Design HV Substation Control and Communication Systems. Develop and review detailed single-line and multi-line AC/DC diagrams, control logic (both wired and IEC 61850 programmable), and busbar/bay interlocking schemes.

· Design advanced communication architectures connecting the step-up substation with generation plants (PV, wind), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Data Centers, collector substations, and remote-control centers.

· Implement IEC 61850 based redundant network topologies such as PRP, HSR, and RSTP

· Execute rigorous FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) and SAT (Site Acceptance Tests)

· Lead Step Up Substation integration and commissioning including Collector Substation, dispatch and Control Center or other BESS or renewable plants.

· Coordinate end-to-end communication tests with REE Dispatch Center, including telemetry, metering, and frontier counting systems.

Does this role inspire you?

We are looking for a proactive and highly specialized professional to join our Energy team as specialist in HV Substations Electrical Engineering. Ideally, you’ll bring:

· A Bachelor’s \ Master’s degree in electrical engineering,

· 5+ years of proven experience in the design, implementation, and commissioning of high-voltage substations alongside other systems integration.

· Strong technical expertise in substation control systems, protection schemes, and advanced substations detailed engineering design

· Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written).

Bonus points if you have:

· Detailed Engineering and/or Owner´s Engineering services related to HV Substations track record up to 400 kV

· AIS / GIS HV Substations Engineering design track record up to 400 KV

· Overhead \ Underground Power Transmission Lines Design experience up to 400 kV

· Power Systems simulation tools knowledge such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP for power system studies

· Knowledge of Electrical norms IEC, IEEE, ANSI, UNE, NTS 2.1, Grid Codes

· Familiar with local companies’ standards REE, Iberdrola, ENEL …

· P&C and SCADA Systems experience

· Energy Storage BESS, Renewables, Data Canters and TSO 220/400 kV Substations integration deep understanding

· HV Substations commissioning process in Spain deep understanding

· Permitting process in Spain for HV Substations (AAP, AAC…) before RTB deep understanding

· Legalization process for energization after mechanical completion (Exploitation permit, EON…) deep understanding

· Commissioning experience with REE TSO collector substation tests coordination
