Arup Bangkok office is seeking an experienced Inspector of Works (IOW) to support earthworks delivery on a major infrastructure project. This site‑based role will focus on the inspection and supervision of cut and fill, compaction, and associated earthworks activities, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Working under the direction of the Resident Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining construction quality, compliance, and coordination between contractors, geotechnical specialists, and the wider project team.

This role is a site-based role in Rayong and will require 6 days of work week (8 hrs a day). This is also a contract role of 16 months.

The Opportunity

  • Inspect and supervise earthworks activities, including cut and fill and compaction works
  • Ensure works comply with approved drawings, method statements, and specifications
  • Inspect ground preparation activities, including grubbing and platform preparation
  • Verify removal of unsuitable materials and replacement with compacted fill where required
  • Monitor fill placement, moisture conditioning, and compaction to required standards
  • Review and coordinate RFA and RFI submissions related to earthworks in coordination with the Resident Engineer
  • Maintain daily site inspection records and contribute to weekly inspection and progress reports
  • Witness field and laboratory testing (soil classification, compaction, moisture content)
  • Monitor site safety practices and report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Attend and participate in weekly site and client progress meetings

Is this role right for you?

  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field
  • Inspector of Works (IOW) certification, where required by local authority
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in earthworks projects
  • Proven experience in cut and fill operations, site grading, and compaction control
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks specifications, standards, and testing methods (e.g. Proctor and field density tests)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and survey data
  • Strong attention to detail with clear written and verbal reporting skills
  • Ability to work full‑time on site under varying conditions
  • Proficiency in Thai (spoken and written) to support coordination with local stakeholders
