Based in Adelaide and working closely with the South Australian leadership team, the Resources (Mining) South Australia Business Leader is a senior leadership role within Arup’s Australasian Resources (Mining) business. It offers a unique opportunity to combine technical leadership with strategic business development, client engagement and market growth.
This role is ideal for an engineering professional who is motivated to excel in business development while continuing to influence high quality project delivery. You will play a key role in growing Arup’s presence in the mining sector, strengthening client partnerships and shaping our future pipeline.
The South Australia Business Leader supports multidisciplinary mining projects, driving technical excellence, commercial performance and sustainable growth. The role also leads opportunity identification, client strategy development and market positioning, reinforcing Arup as a trusted partner across the resources sector.
A strong understanding of the full project lifecycle is essential—from feasibility and scoping through to detailed design and delivery—with experience across a range of procurement models, including direct client engagement and design & construct.
The Opportunity
- Work closely with the State and ANZ Business Leader to deliver sustainable business growth by shaping market presence, prioritising clients and focus areas, and enabling scalable growth.
- Identify current and future capability needs, addressing skills gaps through development, recruitment and succession planning.
- Lead business development across the mining sector, identifying and securing strategic opportunities aligned with Arup’s growth ambitions.
- Build and sustain trusted relationships with key clients, industry partners and stakeholders.
- Represent Arup at industry events, forums and client meetings to enhance our profile, influence and impact.
- Contribute to the negotiation of major contracts and oversee financial performance across nominated projects and portfolios.

Is this role right for you?
- Significant industry experience across Resources (Mining) projects within a consulting or professional services environment;
- Membership, or substantial progress towards membership, of relevant professional institutions or peer bodies;
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and guidelines, including health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Ability to remain positively motivated and foster team spirit at times of significant pressure, including assisting others to meet deadlines;
