The Opportunity

As Arup continues to grow its energy business across Asia Pacific and globally, we are investing in a newly established Secondary Engineering team in Vietnam to support complex high voltage substation projects across the region and beyond. This team is a key part of Arup’s long term growth strategy, providing specialist capability across transmission, distribution and renewable energy infrastructure. Engineers within the team work closely with colleagues across APAC and internationally, contributing to technically complex projects that support the energy transition and the decarbonisation of power networks.

The Senior SCADA & Protection Engineer – Grade 6 acts as a technical authority and subject matter expert in substation secondary systems, including SCADA, protection and control, and grid automation. The role supports Arup’s advisory, design and digital transformation services across transmission, distribution and renewable energy infrastructure. It is suited to a highly experienced engineer who brings deep technical expertise, strong knowledge of utility grade standards, and the ability to operate as a trusted advisor to clients and multidisciplinary project teams.


About this role

  • Provide technical authority for SCADA, protection & control (P&C), and substation automation systems for HV substations typically in the range of 110 kV to 500 kV
  • Lead or review secondary system architectures
  • Mentor and technically guide junior and intermediate engineers
  • Provide specialist expertise in protection and control systems
  • Act as a subject matter expert in IEC 61850 based digital substations
  • Support and advise on SCADA and telecontrol systems
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, utilities, EPC contractors and stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance on IT/OT integration for substations and grid systems
  • Lead or contribute to design assurance and technical governance activities


Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; postgraduate qualification (Master’s / PhD) in power or energy systems highly desirable.
  • 15+ years’ experience in HV substations, grid automation or utility scale energy infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated technical authority in:
    Protection & control systems
    SCADA and substation automation
    IEC 61850 and digital substation technologies
  • Strong understanding of:
    IEEE, IEC and utility specific standards
    HV transmission systems (110 kV–500 kV)
  • Proven client facing experience in consultancy, utility or strategic advisory roles.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
