The Team
Arup’s Data Centre Team is a global network of Architects, Engineers and Specialist Consultants working with the largest and most innovative businesses in the sector. Whilst many projects are Data Centre focussed there are lots of opportunities for involvement in other Critical Facility projects, including Healthcare and TV/Film Studios.
Our clients include developers; enterprise users; telcos; edge; retail and wholesale providers and the major hyperscale cloud services providers.
Our London team delivers projects across the UK, Europe, India and Africa. Our unique delivery model of Engineered Architecture co-locates Arup’s Architects, Engineers and specialists as one project team which improves collaboration and coordination. In these highly serviced buildings, our Architects appreciate that the engineering must lead the design and the architecture follows the function - although there is room for design flair and innovation.
The Opportunity
This is a very exciting opportunity to take a leadership role as part of a large and expanding team. You will be given the support to develop your leadership skills with responsibility for leading projects and teams. In time, we would like you to have responsibility for managing client relationships as you develop towards Associate Director.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coordinating the design of various projects, taking them from initial brief through scheme & detail design to installation and commissioning support
- Provide technical guidance and design management on multi-disciplinary data centre projects
- Mentoring and development of junior colleagues
- Use and develop your management skills and experience in the delivery of design packages

We expect that you have experience in leading teams of engineers on the development of data centre projects throughout all stages of design and construction and that you will have represented the design and/or discipline team in discussions with the client and contractors regarding topics such as the below:
- Design of different cooling solutions including chilled water systems
- PUE/WUE calculations and efficiencies
- TIER levels of resilience and business continuity

Testing and commissioning
Your responsibilities will include:
- Project Planning, Management and Progress Reporting
- Financial performance of projects in association with the Project Director
- Discipline leadership
- Ensuring that all designs and documents are prepared to the highest standards
- Compiling project reports
- Mentoring and development of junior and intermediate engineers in the group
- Travel to project locations as necessary

- Desire to develop the Data Centre business through attending industry events, speaking at conferences and developing relationships with industry partners.
