We are looking for an Assistant Project Commercial and Construction Manager in San Francisco to join our growing Program and Project Management team. In this role you will play a pivotal role in coordinating and supporting the day-to-day project and commercial management of one of our key projects.

Client-Facing Role: this role is client-facing, based the project office for at least four days per week, providing you with direct interaction with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Arup PM in day-day commercial and contract administration of the design-build-finance contract, from the owner’s side, during design and construction.

  • Review and provide initial comments on developer submittals focusing on completeness and coordination, and support consolidation of comments for review by senior team members.

  • Support the project controls activities, including cost tracking, schedule updates and document management, working closely with the Arup PM and project controls teams.

  • Monitor project progress and assist with the preparation of Arup’s team deliverables, under the direction of the Arup PM, before issuing them to the client, including monthly progress reports.

  • Support coordination with schedule and cost consultant teams, including attending meetings, preparing meeting notes, and tracking actions related to schedule and cost matters.

  • Contribute to analysis of change requests and additional scope items by compiling information, reviewing supporting documentation, and assisting senior team members with cost and schedule assessment.

  • Review and support drafting of inputs for proposed delay, relief events, scope changes, and/or allowances for review and approval by senior commercial team members.

  • Support management of a project risk register for the Owner by tracking identified risks, documenting mitigation actions, escalating emerging issues to the Arup PM and senior team members.

  • Support submittal tracking and design deliverable review processes performed by other consultants as part of the owner’s contract management team, ensuring information is logged and circulated appropriately.

  • Help develop and maintain a project controls dashboards to report on schedule, budget and key performance indicators under guidance from senior project controls team members.

  • Attend weekly project coordination meetings and monthly progress meetings with the project team and the Owner, to support discussions on project status and commercial matters.

  • Develop familiarity with Arup finance, project management and reporting systems, and apply these tools to support monitor project performance.

Is this role right for you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in project or construction management, with a focus on large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Experience with projects delivered via alternative project delivery methods, including design-build, progressive design-build, CM/GC, design-build-finance, and public-private partnership (P3) projects (including DBFOM and other forms of P3) is preferable.

  • PE, PMP, CCM, or equivalent certifications, is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Power Point, and Excel) is a must. Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI), project management software SharePoint, Forms, and List, scheduling software Primavera P6, as well as using Co-pilot or other AI tools to perform construction management activities are an advantage.

  • Proficiency in project cost control and forecasting activities, including budgeting, resource planning, spend tracking, management of subs and support to the Project Manager in achieving project profitability and other commercial objectives.

  • Demonstrable experience with a focus on continual improvement and delivering sustainable and value-led project outcomes.

San Francisco Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $110,000 to $130,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
